Now that our is back from paint, it's full steam ahead as reassembly begins. Matt has been hard at work putting the car back together day after day to ensure it's ready before the deadline arrives. While time isn't exactly on his side, years of experience have taught him how to keep a project moving forward efficiently. In fact, he even calculated exactly how many productive hours he needs to spend each day to have the car fully reassembled on schedule. Stay tuned as our 993 is about to look completely different in a short amount of time!

A fantastic finish doesn’t happen overnight, nor is it achieved by just one person. That’s where the team at Fantastic Finishes came into play.

Our wasn’t simply painted — it was obsessively refined panel by panel using some of the best products available on the market from BASF Glasurit. Countless hours were spent block sanding every inch of the shell with specialized sanding blocks designed to conform to every curve and contour of the body. This process exposed even the slightest high or low spots, allowing the team to perfect the surface long before any paint was laid down.

In restoration, paint only looks as good as the preparation underneath it, and Russ works hand in hand with his team to make sure no detail is overlooked. Every reflection, body line, edge, and contour is carefully checked and rechecked to achieve the level of finish both he and his clients have become known for.

The amount of time, precision, and craftsmanship invested into this phase of the restoration is difficult to fully capture in photos alone. What you’re seeing now is the result of countless hours dedicated to chasing perfection before the car ever entered the booth.

We’re incredibly excited to continue sharing the transformation of our 993 as it gets one step closer to returning home and beginning reassembly for this year’s Restoration Challenge.

We could watch the paint dry on our all day. Seeing the car finally come together after countless hours of prep work makes every step of the process worth it. Now comes the hard part — the countdown until the car returns from paint so we can begin the next major phase of the restoration. We know there’s still a mountain to climb, but seeing the progress firsthand only makes us more excited for what’s ahead in this year’s .

Our has come a long way since we started the teardown a few months ago. What was once a well-used 911, covered in years of dirt, grease, and road grime, has been cleaned and given a fresh coat of paint. Now ready for reassembly, we eagerly anticipate the day we can turn the engine on and take it for a drive! We have a lot of work ahead of us, and that's what makes the challenge... a challenge.

Painting a car isn’t as simple as selecting a color, calling up the local paint supply store, and placing an order. There are countless steps involved that many never get to see. From prepping the body to ensure it’s smooth and free of any dings or dents, to mixing the base coat to exact measurements and getting both the color and clear coat just right, achieving a proper finish is a process that takes time to perfect.
Our deserved the very best, so we chose the very best. Fantastic Finishes painted our 1992 Carrera RS in Maritime Blue last year, resulting in a perfect paint score, so trusting them again for this year’s Restoration Challenge was an easy decision.
We’re eagerly awaiting the return of our freshly painted 993 so reassembly can officially begin. Before long, the car will be headed off for judging.
