Both tracks slow -> check shared system components first: charge pressure, fluid, filters, pump.
One track slow -> focus on that side's circuit: final drive, brake, two-speed valve, hoses, pump section.

The case drain filter is easy to overlook, and it can cost you a final drive.

When the case drain clogs, pressure builds in the motor case. That can blow out the shaft seal and push hydraulic oil into the gear housing.

Replace the case drain filter whenever you change the other hydraulic filters. And don't install a new drive on a machine with a restricted case drain.

Buying a remanufactured excavator final drive? Run through this before you approve the purchase:
✔ Confirm the final drive is the real problem. Check travel pressure and case drain flow first.
✔ Match the part number and serial range, not just the machine model.
✔ Ask what "remanufactured" means. Is the unit fully disassembled, inspected and tested?
✔ Get the warranty terms in writing, including what is excluded.
✔ Compare total cost, including downtime, not just price.
✔ Flush the circuit and change filters so contamination doesn't kill the new drive.
