Recently, after receiving a vehicle to donate, CBA Ocotillo gave their time, talent and expertise to ensure it was safe and reliable on the road. Once it was ready, they began praying about who should receive it. As they sought God’s direction, one organization kept coming to mind: Teen Challenge Home of Hope.

When the team reached out to the home’s director, they discovered one of the ministry’s staff members, Jewells, had been faithfully praying for reliable transportation. A graduate of Home of Hope herself, Jewells chose to remain after completing the program, first serving as an intern before joining the staff. Today, she dedicates her life to serving the women and children who find refuge and healing through the ministry.

The director shared that she and Jewells had been praying specifically for a vehicle and believed God had already promised to provide one. The call from the Ocotillo team was the answer they had been waiting for.

Tires are a large investment, and you want to get the most out of them. Regular rotations help both your alignment and suspension components.

Remember, uneven tires can lead to a rougher ride, poor handling, and less traction in inclement weather. 🛞

Vehicles play an essential role in our daily lives and as such auto care has been deemed to be an "essential business". Christian Brothers Automotive - Madison will remain open and here to serve you.

In an effort to respect the protocols for social distancing as outlined by the CDC, we have made some changes to help limit personal contact at our shop. Effective today, we are limiting access to the waiting area and asking that customer utilize the No-Contact Drop Box feature. We have also added the option of courtesy vehicle pick-up and delivery. We will continue to communicate via phone, text, and email services as we have always done and have added payments options that can be made securely through an internet portal via email and text.

During this time, we will be adjusting our hours of operation from 8:00 - 5:00 and suspending the shuttle service. The after hours pick-up and drop-off are still available as usual.

Thank you for supporting our community and small business.

We have officially completed the Mobil 1 Annual Protection challenge with a total of 16,422 miles on the oil over the course of 12 months. As promised, we sent the final sample to Blackstone for testing AND removed the oil pan for visual inspect. To our surprise, the oil pan was clean and the oil still retained its amber translucency much more so than we typically find with conventional oil at the standard 3,000 mile mark.

The final Blackstone results followed what we have come to expect with this oil. Viscosity levels have remained within the acceptable range as well as all metallic and other deposits. In short, there are no signs of any abnormal wear on this engine. In fact, of note is the comment from Blackstone seemingly a little surprised that the oil actually has a full year and 16,000 miles on it since being changed.

To summarize, we have been completely surprised by the results of this oil. Over the course of 12 months we have run the test vehicle through the most real world test possible. We let it sit and idle through an entire tank of fuel (nearly 48 hours), we use it as a daily shuttle in stop / go traffic, and we even sent it on a week long road trip from Alabama to California and back. If there is a more real world test, we don't know what it would be. As noted when we started, none of us would have recommended this to our customers before we ran this test ourselves. Our opinions have changed...with some warnings.

- Periodic checks of the oil level must be done...even new engines can "use" oil regardless of visible leaks

- The digital oil life reminder on the vehicle is rendered inaccurate...the algorithm it uses will tell you that the oil needs changed long before you reach the 12 months or 20k miles.

- If there is not a Mobil 1 Annual Protection Filter available for your model vehicle, you must change the filter based on its manufactures stated interval. This was the case with our test vehicle as was previously noted. Mobil 1 has since released a filter for our application.

Will we recommend Mobil 1 Annual Protection Oil? Based on our findings, YES...when the application fits the scenario. It is not the best option for everyone, but our findings indicate it is a safe and effective option when done correctly. Not only do we tip our hat to Moibil 1 and stand corrected, but we have also refreshed the vehicle with another year of the Mobil 1 Annual Protection oil and filter.

Thanks for following along with the quarterly updates. We tried to make this as unbiased and scientific as possible while maintaining a real world scenario. We hope this has been as educational for you as it has for us.

We are now 11,000 miles into the Mobil 1 Annual Protection challenge. The sample has been collected, the filter has been changed, and we have received the results from the Blackstone test. As can be seen in the pictures, the vehicle's Oil Life meter is showing that it is due for an oil change. This is an important item to point out. These notices are generated from a mathematical algorithm based on your driving habits and in no way monitor the viscosity, cleanliness, or the level of the oil in the system. The vehicle doesn't know that the oil currently in the system is designed to go 20,000 miles and it has no idea how much is in the system. Do not rely on this meter for the actual "health" of your oil...it is possible to be dangerously low on oil and still show plenty of "life" left.

The most recent Blackstone results are beginning to surprise us. We were expecting to see viscosity levels breaking down and signs of wear on the engine, but that is not the case.
Copper levels have returned to normal (as expected) and there are no signs of any abnormal wear on the system. On the contrary, it is remaining very healthy and the oil viscosity is still very strong. Visually, the oil is still fairly transparent and retaining its amber tint as opposed to what we would expect to see, opaque and black.

We'll check back again in another 90 days and bring you the updates as we continue the Annual Protection Challenge.

The results of the most recent Blackstone report are in. This is the second sample taken on the Mobil 1 Annual Protection oil. We are still at relatively low mileage for the sample being at just 5,300 total, but we did it on the 90 day calendar cycle as promised. Results are as expected for this mileage, but the Copper seems to be spiking a bit. We will watch it on the next round and see where it goes.
