The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is urging carriers, brokers, and other registered transportation entities to prepare immediately as its legacy online registration systems are set to be retired on May 14, 2026.

Any business with a USDOT Number or operating authority (MC, MX, FF docket number) is being told to take action before the transition to the agency’s new registration platform, Motus.

According to FMCSA, affected users should:

• Log into their FMCSA Portal account and confirm it is active
• Create a Portal account if they do not already have one using their USDOT PIN
• Verify company details, operation classification, contact information, and authorized users
• Complete any needed company updates through the Biennial Update (MCS-150) section

FMCSA says inactive portal accounts are disabled after 90 days and archived after 12 months, meaning some users may need to contact the agency to restore access.

The new Motus platform will replace both the Unified Registration System (URS) and the current FMCSA Portal, with the agency saying the updated system will offer stronger fraud protection and a more user-friendly experience.

Once live, Motus will handle:
• New USDOT registrations
• Operating authority applications
• Biennial updates
• Company information changes
• Authority reinstatements
• USDOT number activation/inactivation
• Registration tracking
• Supporting document uploads

For many trucking businesses, this is a critical administrative deadline to avoid access issues during the system transition.
