8U Lowell Summer Tournament Team Tryouts
Tryouts: Tryouts for the citywide 8-year-old summer tournament travel baseball team will be this Sunday, May 22nd at the Shedd senior league (Gresco) field at 5:30pm. Players unable to attend Sunday should email the team’s manager, Bill Florence, at [email protected]. Gresco field is adjacent to the large pavilion at Shedd Park.
Eligibility: Any 8-year-old players currently on a spring roster in one of Lowell’s Cal Ripken chartered leagues. Age eligibility is based on a players’ age on May 1st of this year. Players born between May 1st 2013 and April 30th 2014 are eligible.
Selection: team selection will be determined by representatives from each park and the teams head coach. Selections are based on, but not limited to, tryout evaluations, spring coach recommendations and feedback from independent evaluators. Maximum roster size is 12. The final roster is expected to be Lowell’s most competitive team at this age group.
Overview: The tournament travel season runs from late-June through early August. The team will compete in the Cal Ripken District 2 tournament and 2 rounds of Baystate TOC. Total games played will be 14-16 with potential to qualify for more. Most travel will be within 30-45 mins of Lowell. However, there may be some instances where travel is more extensive but still within the state.
Fees: Travel fees will likely be in the $250-$300 / player range. The fee covers the cost of uniforms, umpire fees, and league/tournament entry fees.
Additional Teams: additional teams will be assembled to the extent there’s enough player interest, and coaching, to support them. In such cases, we’ll first look to create a second Cal Ripken tournament team that would also participate in 2 rounds of Baystate TOC. We’ll then build MVC Summer League teams beyond that. In general, we want to provide summer baseball opportunities to any/all interested players in the city.
