River Hawk Racing: The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Chapter of UMass Lowell As a result, even the smallest contribution will help the team. Interested?

River Hawk Racing (RHR) serves as the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Chapter at UMass Lowell. We participate in the Formula SAE Competiton hosted annually in both Michigan and Nebraska and needs a variety of students of different majors and backgrounds in order to succeed. Formula SAE® is one of several collegiate design competitions sanctioned by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) for student members, which challenges students to produce a racecar in a simulated startup company environment. In contrast with some other engineering-related clubs, River Hawk Racing succeeds most from including students of various backgrounds and majors, including but not limited to, engineering, business, marketing, accounting, and graphic design. Driving the car is only a small fraction of what River Hawk Racing is truly about. Most of the team's progress are down to the most behind the scenes stuff, including working to resolve conflict, building relationships, and ultimately, doing whatever it takes to succeed. Ever wondered what it actually takes to build a high-performance race car from scratch? 🏎️💨

Riverhawk Racing is opening up the shop floor! Come through our Fall Open Garage to tour the garage, sit in the cockpit, and see how you can get hands-on experience this season.

No prior racing or automotive experience needed. Whether you want to write code for our live dashboard telemetry, lay carbon fiber aero, wire sensor harnesses, or run our business and sponsorship ops—there’s a spot for every major and skill level. We teach you everything from day one!

📍 Riverhawk Racing Garage (North Campus)

👟 Closed-toe shoes are strictly required to enter the garage!

Snacks provided. Drop in for 10 minutes or hang out the whole morning.

River Hawk Racing would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Mannjng School of Business for presenting us with the Outstanding Leadership & Development Award for the 2025–2026 academic year.

This recognition means a great deal to our team, as it reflects the work we’ve put into creating an environment where students can grow as leaders while applying classroom knowledge in business, engineering, and project management to real-world challenges.

Over the past year, we’ve focused heavily on hands-on development—whether that’s designing, manufacturing, and competing with a racecar in a single year, expanding our events and community engagement, or helping members progress into leadership roles and professional opportunities.

UMass Lowell’s 9th Annual Days of Giving is around the corner! For 72 hours, we will be in a competition against hundreds of other student organizations to get the highest number of individuals donors. We have a head start! 🤫

🚗💨 Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booths at the University of Massachusetts Lowell Open House this past weekend!

It was great meeting so many enthusiastic prospective students interested in engineering, business, and motorsports. We loved sharing what River Hawk Racing is all about — from designing and building our Formula SAE car to representing UML at international competitions.

We’re excited to see new faces at the next open house on November 15th and can’t wait to welcome the next generation of River Hawks to our team!🦅🔧
