This 2017 encore only has 82k miles, and one cylinder has a completely blown out piston ring. These 1.4 turbo engines have a plethora of different issues. The remedy for something like this is alwyas going to be a remanufactured or new engine.

On the menu for lunch today was a 2013 Kia Optima hybrid. Symptoms were alot of play in steering wheel and audible clicking noise. SUPER common repair as these guys need no help in turning into a black goo with age. Or just constant abuse from the electric motor 🤷‍♂️.

Looks like Ken Towerys is off-limits as well now. Sent a customer there after a curb collision to see if bead sealer would do the trick, and see if the wheel would still balance out. Just got off the phone with this customer because he just left Ken Towerys at Westport and Chamberlain. He pulled over due to a knocking noise to find his wheel almost unbolted from the car.

I feel terrible because he could of been seriously injured, had he lost a wheel. And i recommended him go there! He did the right thing and pulled over as soon as he heard something, and called me.

This is a situation i never want my customers to be in again, so i want to let everyone know i will soon be offering tire mounting/balancing services at the shop, in addition to some other long overdue work on the garage. My goal is to keep as few hands on your vehicles as possible, which means providing full service.

In this video I show a common mistake some “technicians” make when re-sealing a valve cover gasket. And a tool to help be more efficient (or completely ruin the surface if used incorrectly) when doing so.

SIDE NOTE: The camshaft lobes (a common place to gauge wear on an engine) on this 310k mile Camry look great!

This car didnt have a single miss. But the valve cover leak was so bad it caused the belt to derail. I noticed this when i started the repair for the valve cover. Incredibly the car was not missing from the #1 coil being completely submerged in oil.

My motto? “Cars are weird.”
