Most auto manufacturers have their own special formula of coolant and BMW is no exception. BMW vehicles must only be filled with a long term ethylene glycol antifreeze/coolant that contains corrosion inhibitors compatible with aluminum. This means you need genuine coolant if you want your BMW to stand the test of time. Genuine BMW coolant prevents winter freeze-ups; summer boilovers; protects against corrosion and prevents excessive silicate gel precipitation which can clog your cooling system.
