The numbers in the latest spec showdown are difficult to overlook. The Tesla Model S Plaid rockets from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.99 seconds, while the newly introduced Ferrari Luce takes 2.4 seconds to hit the same mark. That difference stands out despite the Luce appearing stronger on paper, offering 1,050 horsepower compared to the Plaid’s 1,020, four electric motors instead of three, a larger 122 kWh battery pack, and quicker 350 kW charging speeds.

Tesla, however, counters with the metrics that matter most in everyday performance. The Model S Plaid delivers an EPA-estimated 348 miles of range, compared to about 280 miles for the Ferrari, along with a slipperier 0.208 drag coefficient, a lighter 4,839-pound curb weight, and Full Self-Driving technology that the Luce does not offer. The most dramatic contrast may be the pricingp: the Plaid starts around $95,000, while the Luce enters the market near $640,000, making the Tesla nearly seven times less expensive.

The comparison highlights just how far Tesla has advanced EV performance, combining supercar-level acceleration, efficiency, and autonomous tech at a price point traditional manufacturers like Ferrari — even with their first electric model — still cannot approach.

Can you buy it to run under the Tesla taxi fleet?

Tesla Cybercab at roughly $30,000 is now cheaper than the average used Model 3 which sold for $33,914 over the last 30 days according to TeslaTracker data. Let that sink in: a brand new autonomous vehicle with no steering wheel, no pedals and the ability to legally drive itself costs less than a secondhand sedan that still needs a human behind the wheel. The math works because removing traditional driver controls eliminates significant hardware cost from every unit while the two-seater design keeps the body compact and manufacturing simple using 60% fewer parts than a Model Y. But the real value isn't the sticker price, it's what the Cybercab can do after you buy it. Send it to pick up your kids, have it drop you off and drive itself home instead of paying for parking, add it to Tesla's Robotaxi fleet to earn passive income while you sleep, or buy a fleet and run your own transportation business at $0.20 per mile operating costs.

Tesla just killed off the vehicle that defined the modern EV: 2026 will be the end of the road for the Model S and the related Model X. Back in 2009 when we first got a glimpse of Tesla's first volume model, it was an eye-opening moment for the industry. Up to that point, most EVs were frankly fugly, and nobody was chasing the luxury performance market like Tesla decided to do.

The Model S proved that EVs could charge quickly, accelerate insanely, drive long distances, and create a desirable brand.

Over the years, the Model S turned into the comfy electric E-Class alternative for many, while the Model X was the OG 7-seat EV in America. Since then, however, the competition has been fierce with plenty of big, expensive EVs vying for shoppers' dollars. It honestly hasn't helped that the S and X haven't seen a full redesign since they launched, either. In 2025, S+X accounted for around 3% of Tesla's sales volume, so it's no shock that they have been canned.

What is perhaps more of a shock is that Tesla doesn't seem to have a solid 3-row option in the pipeline. Sure, the Y has a 3rd row, but it's just about the least comfortable 3rd row in America...l d e iivt
