It's National Fossil Day! (Can you dig it??)

Fossils provide a remarkable record of life on Earth, helping scientists piece together stories that span millions of years. They also create some of the most memorable museum experiences for visitors of all ages.

Over the years, D&P has been proud to fabricate and install exhibits that showcase these ancient discoveries, including projects at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, the Gilder Center, and Deep Time at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History.

Every fossil has a story. We're honored to help museums bring those stories to life.

Happy Birthday to the United States Navy!

On October 13, we celebrate the service, dedication, and history of the U.S. Navy. For the team at D&P, the occasion brings back fond memories of fabricating and installing exhibits at the Navy Museum at the Washington Navy Yard.

Helping bring naval history to life for visitors was an honor and a reminder of the important role museums play in preserving stories of service for future generations.

Happy Birthday, Navy, and thank you to all who have served.

October is National Stamp Collecting Month.

DYK the first postage stamps were introduced in 1837?

Stamp collecting offers a unique look at history, culture, art, and innovation through some of the smallest objects ever created. From classic designs to colorful modern issues, stamps tell stories that span generations.

At D&P, we're proud to have fabricated and installed exhibits at the National Postal Museum, helping create engaging experiences that connect visitors with the rich history of the postal system and the evolution of stamp collecting. Projects like these showcase how thoughtful exhibit fabrication can transform fascinating collections into memorable museum experiences.

Do you have a stamp collection, or did a family member pass one down to you?

Up, up, and away!

The newest galleries at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum have officially opened! D&P is proud to have served as the exhibit fabricator for all five, continuing our work with the incredibly talented teams of Air and Space, Reich&Petch, and many more collaborators!

Since July 1st, the public is now able to explore the Flight and the Arts Center, the Jay I. Kislak World War II in the Air gallery, U.S. National Science Foundation Discovering Our Universe gallery, the RTX Living in the Space Age gallery, and the Textron How Things Fly interactive gallery.

We encourage everyone to visit the National Air and Space Museum, and we look forward to completing this monumental renovation project with Air and Space later this Fall. Our sincerest gratitude goes out to all involved for getting to be a part of this once in a lifetime project.

June 6, 1944. A day that shaped the course of history and demanded extraordinary courage. We pause to remember the service members who crossed the English Channel, the scale of the operation, and the sacrifice that followed.
We’re grateful to have played a small role in helping museums share these stories—so future generations can reflect, learn, and carry forward the legacy of D-Day.

We’re heading to Philadelphia. Are you?

D&P is proud to be a sponsor of the 2026 American Alliance of Museums Annual Meeting & MuseumExpo, which kicks off Thursday.

Conferences like AAM are where ideas, designs, and plans start to feel real. By the time a project reaches our shop, content is defined, funding is in place, and designs are ready to be built. Our job is to take that work and turn it into exhibits that can handle years of visitors, school groups, and daily use.

We’re looking forward to reconnecting with colleagues, meeting new teams, and talking about how we can support museums long after opening day.

If you’re in Philadelphia May 20–23, we hope you’ll say hello.

Happy !

On March 31, we celebrate the humble crayon and the big ideas it inspires. In 1999, D&P installed the World of Crayola experience, including a mounted mosaic of crayons just like this one that still lives on our wall. Each piece reflects our mountmaker's precision, whose careful planning and ex*****on allowed the designer’s vision to shine. Hundreds of colors come together, each distinct, yet working in harmony to create a single, expressive whole.

That collaboration mirrors what makes crayons--and museum exhibits--so powerful. A vast palette invites creativity, while thoughtful structure turns imagination into something lasting. Time has softened the colors a bit, but the story remains clear: craftsmanship and creativity are strongest when they work together. Today, pick a favorite color, notice how it plays with the others, and celebrate the joy found in both design and making.

Happy West Virginia Day!

Today we celebrate the 35th state to join the Union and the rich history, culture, and character that make West Virginia truly one of a kind.

From the Allegheny and Appalachian Mountains to the deep roots of its small communities, West Virginia’s landscape and traditions have shaped generations of storytellers, makers, musicians, and innovators. It’s a state where history runs deep—through coal seams, along mountain ridges, and in the voices and craft of its people.

At D&P, we had the honor of bringing that history to life in 2009 through the new exhibits at the West Virginia State Museum. The project explored the state’s story in depth, blending immersive scenic environments—including a walk through coal mine—with artifacts, media, and environments that reflect the spirit of The Mountain State. It remains one of our most memorable projects, and we’re proud to have played a part in sharing West Virginia’s heritage with visitors from near and far.

Today, we join in recognizing the state’s contributions—from Civil War history and industrial heritage to its artists, authors, explorers, and groundbreakers.

Happy to all who call West Virginia home—and to everyone who loves the Mountain State as much as we do.

It’s Women in Aviation Week, which also falls during Women’s History Month. Let’s celebrate pioneering aviators whose courage helped reshape what was possible in the sky.

Ruth Law pushed the boundaries of early flight with record setting performances that captivated audiences across the country. Her daring nighttime “loop the loop” flights made her one of the most accomplished aviators of the World War I era.

Bessie Coleman broke barriers as the first African American woman to earn an international pilot’s license, learning how to soar in France. She returned to the U.S. as a stunt pilot, using her platform to challenge segregation and inspire future generations of Black aviators.

Amelia Earhart became one of the world’s most celebrated pilots, from her first transatlantic flight as a passenger in 1928 to becoming the first woman to fly solo nonstop across the Atlantic in 1932. Her trailblazing flights and advocacy for female pilots transformed aviation history.
This month offers countless opportunities to learn more about their legacy—and the many women who followed their flight paths.

to discover their stories, including:
✈️ The National Archives (Ruth Law's photo)
✈️ The Smithsonian Institution (Bessie Coleman’s pilot license)
✈️ The National Air and Space Museum (Amelia Earhart’s Lockheed Vega)

Let their achievements lift you up this Week and during Women’s History Month.

On , we’re celebrating the Land of 10,000 Lakes and the Minnesotans who care deeply for their natural heritage, scientific curiosity, and sense of place. Minnesota’s landscapes, from the cool shores of Lake Superior to the northern forests and prairies, inspire a culture of stewardship rooted in history, nature, and community.

We had the privilege of learning from that spirit while working on the Bell Museum’s exhibits in St. Paul. The project brought together science, art, and the environment to reflect the state’s distinctive ecology. Moving historic dioramas, supporting new exhibits, and helping bring the museum’s vision to life offered us a deeper appreciation for the stories, wildlife, and research that shape Minnesota.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a place that celebrates the natural world so thoughtfully. We look forward to visiting again and experiencing Minnesota’s beauty—indoors and out.
