The best part of this job is providing solutions for the boating community. It’s fantastic to know that the team and I work hard to make their boat, functional fun and efficient. Anytime you’re on the water and the boat is more practical, functional, and easier to use. There is an inherent feeling of joy and relaxing feeling, when the mechanical things work properly, it simply makes you a better sailor and crew because you can focus on the important things, making the boat go through the water, efficiently and safe

Cabin Retaining Panels:

The idea was to provide matching mahogany panels to integrate seamlessly with the aesthetic of the performance live board, cruising boat.

10 angled spacer blocks were carefully measured, then meticulously cut on the table saw, epoxy resin coated, after curing bonded them onto the glass cloth, after curing then sectioned off parts received 2 more coats of varnish. Then the individual parts were ready for port and starboard installation.

Once the panels and spacers were completely installed, it gives the cabin a streamlined and uncluttered look, but also allowing for easy access of necessary items ….. certainly a fantastic solution.

Lazaretto bench project.
In order to amplify the functionality of the aft locker, benches were added on the port and starboard sides. After a detailed re-paint. This scope of work detailed that the benches could be removable, and therefore saddles were fabricated at the fore and aft surfaces in which the bench slats would stay in position. The interesting angles of the boat hull and the demands of the geometry for the slats made the saddles a very important integral part of the entire design. The laminated parts were essentially sculpted to best fit the boat on the fore and aft sections as primarily anchoring points. The saddles had 3 positions to cradle each of the 3 slats. The saddle system was detailed with rounded corners and edges to be as ergonomic and functional as possible. After sanding the saddles epoxy resin was applied, primer applied, then final paint to match the new paint. All getting sanded between various applications. Two small vertical supports were added to keep the slats from flexing. These were attached with some machine screws to be removable by using threaded inserts. This was done so the slats could be stored efficiently if needed. Forward edge of the slats were also kept in place with machine screws set into SS inserts for added security, and easily removed when stowed away. The easier of the processes was making the slats. This teak 1/2” stock was 3 1/2” wide and edges routed, then 5 coats of varnish.
