🚨 WINTER WEATHER PREPAREDNESS NOTICE 🚨

With a winter storm expected to impact our area this weekend—and uncertainty surrounding the conditions it may bring—the London Police Department encourages everyone to be prepared for any outcome.

❄️ Travel conditions may change rapidly. If you must be on the roads, slow down, allow extra time, and increase following distance.
❄️ Give snow plows plenty of room. Plows operate at slower speeds, may make frequent stops, and often have limited visibility. Please do not follow too closely or attempt to pass them—they are working to keep roads safe.
❄️ Move over or slow down when you see first responders, road crews, or tow truck operators working along the roadway. These individuals are putting themselves at risk to help others—your caution can save a life.
❄️ Have an emergency kit ready with essentials such as food, water, medications, blankets, and a flashlight.
❄️ Check on elderly neighbors, family members, and anyone who may need assistance.
❄️ Stay informed through trusted local weather sources and official updates.

🚓 Our officers will remain on duty and prepared to respond as conditions allow. Please remember to only call 911 or the London/Laurel 911 Center for emergencies, so dispatchers can focus on urgent calls for service.

Your safety—and the safety of those working to help you—is our top priority. A little preparation and patience can go a long way. Stay safe, stay warm, and look out for one another.

WEDNESDAY MORNING UPDATE:
HEAVY SNOW TOTALS STILL HOLD

Updated precipitation models continue to forecast that Southeastern Kentucky will receive about a foot of snow through the weekend, with even higher totals in some areas. The storm track is shifting north, meaning it may start out as freezing rain before turning to all snow.

One of the main problems is that whatever falls will stick around. Temperatures aren’t expected to be above freezing until next Wednesday, with a low Monday night forecasted to be -1 degrees.

Travel may be difficult after this storm, so prepared to wait it out inside. Have alternate sources of heat and light, if possible. If not, make plans with family or neighbors to seek shelter elsewhere if the power goes out.

The time to plan is now.
