At first glance, the BMW Isetta looks almost like something from a cartoon, but this tiny “Bubble Car” was a real piece of post-war automotive history. BMW began producing the Isetta in 1955 after licensing the design from Italian company Iso, and the model quickly became one of BMW’s most recognizable small cars. �

The Isetta 300 was powered by a tiny 298 cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine producing around 13 horsepower. Despite its tiny size, it could reach approximately 53 mph (85 km/h). Its most famous feature was the single door at the front of the car, which opened forward and made getting into the little cabin possible without conventional side doors. �
