The WI DMV Driver Education Grant Program will reopen again on Monday July 13, 2026. The process is the same as previous releases.

New Direction Driving School is a licensed WI DMV Driver Education School and accepts grants from this program.

Students & parents can apply for the grant at: Wisconsin Department of Transportation website with a search for Driver Education Grant Program.

Important: Funding is limited and applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend being ready to apply right at 9:00 a.m.
Who may be eligible?
• Student is ages 14½–19
• Student is a Wisconsin resident
• Households that meet income guidelines (often the same guidelines used for free/reduced-price school lunch)
• Student has not previously held a driver license
• Apply before enrolling in any driver education program (enrolling first can make a student ineligible)
What the grant covers
• The grant covers 100% of driver education tuition (E-learning Classroom & Behind the Wheel Instruction) for eligible students, paid directly to New Direction Driving School, LLC.
• Not covered: Wisconsin DMV fees (instruction permit, road test, probationary license) are still the student’s responsibility.
• Coupon codes expire so you want to register for driver’s education as soon as you receive approval.
How to apply (step by step)
1. On July 13, 2026 at 9:00 a.m., go to the Wisconsin DOT Driver Education Grant Program webpage and complete the online application.
2. Have the student’s information ready (legal name, date of birth, Wisconsin address, and school information).
3. If approved, you will receive a confirmation email with coupon code(s).
4. Log on to New Direction Driving School, LLC website (www.learn2driv.com) and register for the E-learning & BTW program using the coupon code(s) the DOT provided.
If you miss this round
The grant opens in quarterly rounds (January, April, July, and October). If funding runs out before you apply, you may be able to join a Wisconsin DOT notification list so you can be alerted when the next round opens.
