I had the pleasure of working on a 57 Chevy resto mod that would be perfectly at home sitting on stage at the annual SEMA auto extravaganza in Las Vegas. It is one gorgeous black Chevy. It was repainted many years ago to an extremely high standard, but through going to car shows, etc. the paint was just not popping like it should and also there were certain areas like the top of the fenders that seems to attract scratches that needed some serious buffing. This 57 Chevy was buffed with some two-step polishing with a rotary and then finishing off with a dual action polisher to get the paint as perfect as possible before a ceramic coating was installed.

We love extreme makeovers! With the prices of new and used cars why not renew your ride?! Here is a 2009 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. The trim was totally UV washed out. The running boards were a light grey, but in 2009 they were Black. This SUV was repainted in recent years and was very good.

The trim was dyed and further protected with a ceramic trim coating. It should last for years.

For good measure the paint was machined polished before a 5 year coating was applied.

Last week was Ford Super Duty trucks. The first was a 2025 F250 Super Duty long bed with custom painted cap. It was a beast in for the full ceramic coating process from deep paint cleaning, polishing and coating. Many thanks to close friend Jim Yoxtheimer at his Park Street Detailing in Avis. His huge heated shop is a godsend at this time of the year. I can handle F150s and some F250s at Fastidious Detailing but not this big boy. Call for appointment to get your ride ready for spring.

Nope, not one of those AI “before and after” posts. This is the real deal. 2022 Silverado in for a 8-year rated ceramic coating package on paint, trim and wheels. The coating was just icing on the cake. It started with complete wash, tar removal, mechanical decontamination, full machine polish, solvent wipedown and THEN the ceramic coating is applied.

Recall the song 'Rags to Riches' by Tony Bennett? Uh, no? Well, here's another version of 'rags to riches' in the form of a 2018 Nissan Sentra that hasn’t had an interior detail for seven years. See before and afters here. Do you have a difficult interior has gotten beyond what you can do? Owner said he thinks he’s driving a new car.

It’s been a busy week. This one is something special in a high-performance SUV. In this case a Range Rover SVR with a supercharged V8 good for 510 hp which in 2017 was still a big number. This cool ride came in for a ceramic coating package. It has 60k miles but is on  excellent condition except for the acres of piano black that Range Rover uses for all of the pillars and grill and lower rear bumper. The 60,000 miles have been tough on the piano black with much of it looking like a light gray plastic rather than high gloss black. The Rover was prepped for the coating with machine polishing everywhere, including extra attention to all the piano black.

Just in yesterday was a ‘22 Silverado that had extensive tar spray from the PennDOT Rt 15O tar and chip treatment gone bad. The owner likes white trucks and there was one under the tar and heavy road grunge rendering the paint very tired.

To decontaminate this truck we wash first with a citrus APC. After this contact wash, a different citrus degreaser was sprayed on the lower half of the body panels to dwell and while we used a plastic razor blade. The tar areas were “scraped” with a plastic razor blade to remove the “blobs” to make the job of the chemicals to come can work more quickly.

Now the paint and trim was ready for lots scrubbing with a petroleum based tar solvent on a rag. This white truck then revealed all sorts of small orange spots along the sides and rear. These were tiny iron particles on the paint that are rusting on the paint surface. An iron remover was sprayed over the truck. The iron remover was used-together with added lubricants-with a synthetic clay towel. After a thorough rinse, then the sides and tailgate were quickly buffed to improve gloss and clarity of paint. That is a full decontamination process from start to finish.
