At approximately 9:00PM on Jan. 25, Llano VFD responded to a two vehicle crash at the intersection of 29/71 west.

Llano VFD, Llano CO Sheriff’s Deputies, and Hamilton EMS were on scene for over two hours taking care of patients, cleaning debris and controlling traffic, all in below freezing temps.

However the real story about last night is the amount of motorists who disregard big red trucks with flashing lights.

When Police, Fire, and EMS are dispatched to a MVC, we never know what we’re going to see until we get there. Trucks are then placed at strategic spots in order to control traffic and keep the scene safe. It’s dangerous enough on a nice warm spring day. But on nights like last night, with below freezing temps and VERY icy roads, it just makes more sense that when you come upon 15 vehicles, most of them with flashing lights, that you would stop when a fireman waves you down.

We get it. You want to get home, or you want to drive by and look at the accident. You want to see what happened or make sure it’s not a car you recognize. However, being a “lookie-loo” is not really all that safe. And trust us, there’s just some things you really DON'T want to see.

When you come upon an accident, please, SLOW DOWN! If fire trucks are blocking the road, do not attempt to pass them. Be alert and watch for personnel waving you down, or telling you to stop.

After all, we want to get home too…
