EC Auto Studio was recently contacted by the owner of this "Super Kool" 1967 Shelby GT500 that you see here
The GT had been restored many years ago by another shop. The owner also shared that he drives and enjoys this girl often (actually, who wouldn't!) and of course with time, a few scrapes and wear are inevitable. A few areas just need a little love.
She was carefully disassembled, and the repairs were carefully completed. As it is quite often with repairing these classic cars, the most challenging part of the repair process can be the color matching. After a little time and effort a good formula was achieved.
In the end, all the repairs EC Auto Studio performed came out great. We repaired and aligned the original front extension. For the front bumper we were able to bring it in and align. The quarter extensions were repaired. We replaced the rear bumper and color sanded and polished a few areas throughout the exterior.
She is now ready for many more miles and years to strut her stuff. "Super Kool" to say the least!

Thought I would share a little update on the 1948 Coach Built Ambulance we here at EC Auto Studio have been restoring and occasionally posting about.
We have completed the rear body fabrication and preliminary welding. As I have stated here before, all of these panels were hand formed originals and had to be replicated the same way. There are no aftermarket panels available for this "Baby".
Everything so far has come out great and she is really starting to take some shape. Once the rear body was complete, it was time to tackle the severely rotted front floor panels as well as the rotted toe board panel.
Even though this is not a "true to every piece" restoration, the original feel was kept in tact (wherever we could) with this old girl.
Before venturing outward to the exterior body panels there is one more part to this plan of business. Our replacement engine is giving us some clearance issues with the original firewall - and since nothing that was original to the firewall will be returning - a new replacement firewall has begun to be fabricated. It will hold out new replacement heating and cool system, break pedal, booster, master cylinder, replacement electric wiper motor, and new accelerator pedal.
Ok, I am getting a little ahead of myself. Need to save a little for later. As always, if you want to follow this build - or any of our many others - you can do so at our website www.ecautostudio.com

Sometimes the smallest of things can cause such a "ripple effect". This Super Kool 1971 GTX I have posted before, is an awesomely beautiful car that we restored back in 2010. You see, there was a little something in a blind spot hacking her up and causing what was relatively minor damage. The damage was though down to bare metal on both the Left Quarter Panel and the Rear Valance.
Of course the correct repair necessitated the removal of the Rear Valance - which meant the Rear Bumper needed to be removed - which meant removing the Tail Lamps - and so on it goes.
What is really starting to become a problem is that some on the Tints/Toners I use to formulate the original color/paint is becoming harder to get, and the prices of said tints is staggering. The ripple effect.
Of course in the end, everything came out great! The car looks great, and she went back together perfectly with a great repair that is virtually noticeable that will last generations.
Sometimes a few ripples aren't so bad.

Well I was doing a little scrolling the other day, and then there she was. There was a collection of pics from a local car show in Patchogue (The Paul Felice Car Show) and one of the first photos was of this absolutely beautiful 1954 Chevrolet that we at EC Auto Studio had recently restored (1st pic credited to Joseph Gerard).

It got me thinking about how far this "super kool" Chevy had come. This was a complete - every nut and bolt - rotisserie restoration. I must admit that there are times when you are deep in the middle of these projects that it is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Then on the flip side, I see her out in her element, "wow'ing" the crowds, and its hard to remember her in a million pieces up on the rotisserie with hundreds of hours to get her to the paint we see here.

It's all part of the process.

We at EC Auto Studio were visited by another old friend. You see, this super kool 1971 Road Runner shown here was restored by us approximately 25 years ago.

I had received a phone call from a very upset owner who had just "kissed" the garage wall pulling her in. My immediate assessment was that the entire fender would have to be stripped of the trim and decal. Ground down, primed, base coat blended out, followed by a full clear coat. Then sanding, compounding, and polishing. Our client did not take this news very well, and actually thought of leaving the damage.

I really felt for him. After a while, I told him to leave it with me and I will see what I can do. We covered the car and started with a little solvent followed by some wet sanding and polishing. It was slightly better. So I did it again, and then again - each time holding my breath and thinking to myself "I should stop", because if it was to burn through, then it would have to be refinished.

After a few hours walking on eggshells I was able to get it all out with no tell-tale sign that anything had every happened. Guess we did a great job of adhesion the first time, and applied plenty of clear coat.

Of course our client was happy to say the least. As I've said before, we complete these cars and then sometimes its years before I get to see them again - and when I do, even I am amazed how "super kool" these cars look all these years later.

Just look at the pop up scoop, the hood pins, the wing, the reflective "strobe stripe", and the red exhaust tips. All of this just screams 1970's and its been preserved for generations to come to enjoy. They sure don't make cars like this anymore, what a shame.

A few weeks ago I had old you all that the 1967 Mustang we have here at EC Auto Studio had been working on was near completion and that my next post she would be finished by us.

A little recap. What came in as a classic mustang that was a simple "my car is done all it needs is paint" - to a "where do we stop nightmare". Then throw in a "well there is no hood and we need a kustom hood to clear the super charged motor". Eventually leading to an "Oh, I know we are ready for paint but I would like to install some mini tubs". Just a small sample of the challenges we faced.

In the end though she looks awesome and our client is very happy. He has had her since he was 15 years old and holds a special place in his heart. She is now off to have some suspension upgrades, and then to have the interior completed. Hopefully along the way this girl will finally get a set of wheels and tires. I feel so bad for her in those ugly (shop wheels) shoes.

I have a feeling she may pass this way again, and if so, I will show you the finished product. If you would like to see the complete build of this beautiful you can visit our website www.ecautostudio.com

Well we here at EC Auto Studio have reached another small milestone on our ongoing 1948 Cadillac Ambulance of which I've posted some of the previous here before.

We had recently mated the repaired body structure to the "Kustom" one-of Scotts Rods supplied chassis. We have now - for the first time - dropped in our brand new GM engine and transmission. So far so good! Everything came together without any excitement. The distributor is a little close to the firewall, something that will be addressed soon when we begin the front floor replacement and fabrication.

First we will complete the in progress metal fabrication to the rear body (more on that later). Keep you posted. If you want to see and follow the complete build so far visit our website www.ecautostudio.com

I would like to present to you "Sensation", as I like to refer to her as.

Towards the end of February I had introduced to you this very "blah" 1998 Corvette I had just purchased at the time, and at the time I said she was my "Pygmalion". Well this "blah" street lady has transformed to this beautiful sexy lady you see here. Definitely looks classic while simultaneously not look dated.

As with any beautiful woman, I started with skin care. We spent hours sanding, filling chips, compounding, and polishing to make her original finish become this mile deep liquid black look.

The unsightly body moldings were trashed. We had a small rear spoiler that added a little bit of flare to her. When then added some functional Z06 style rear break cooling vents that additionally add style.

Of course every mature lady needs a sexy pair of shoes, and we didn't fall short here with a very fitting set of 9x17s in the front and 10x18s in the rear of kustom rims from Florida Speed Shop. I added a small pinstripe to the wheels for a little extra pizzaz - as well as pay homage to the redline tires of the 60s, and the red line rims on the 1978 Pace Car.

The finishing touch was the subtle graphics we sprayed on the hood. This paid tribute to the 2000 heritage graphics. It just really sets her off from the crowd. I mixed up a gray that matches the wheels and finished it off with the same red pinstripe on the wheels. The graphics give the front appearance of sitting lower, and gives her a little attitude.

We did very little to the drivetrain as nothing was needed - and this is where she really shines. Plenty of power, cruises effortlessly, and hasn't met a curve she doesn't devour.

The biggest problem now is all I want to do is be with her, and drive the heck out of it. I am getting attached. But as I've said before - for me - the vision, the build, the final product is where its all at for me. I can't get attached.

So with that, I am going to have to pass her on to someone else who can have everlasting feeling for her. Because she is a "Sensation".

You can follow the build on our website www.ecautostudio.com

We've posted before about some of the incredible amount of rust and the amount of fabrication we had to accomplish on this coach built 1948 Ambulance we have been restoring. Well here is just another small peek at some of the fabrication needed for this project.

As I've said before, this was a hand built vehicle. There are no replacement pieces available, so everything has to be traditional hand formed and fabricated.

In this group you will see what was involved in replacing the rusted out rear sill panel. A cardboard pattern was made from the original panel. That was transferred to a wooden panel, that was then routed out, and a similar panel was made out of 18 gauge sheet metal. They would then be used to clamp and sandwich another piece of sheet metal. Then the assembly was worked and shaped using a planishing hammer. There was plenty of good old fashioned hammer and dollying. Some time in the break to get all the bends, some cutting and trimming, and we finally have something to weld in.

Now this is only one of the many panels that will have to be made to complete the rear body area. As a friend of mine likes to say, "How do you eat an elephant? - One piece at a time". And so it goes.

A few weeks ago we showed you the progression n a 1967 Mustang that we here at EC Auto Studio have been building. Well I thought I would give you one more peak into the progression because we are very close to the completion of this project. She is really coming together nicely, and my next post, she should be finished.
Our client had just seen her yesterday for the first time and he was blown away with smiles from ear to ear. She is scheduled to leave EC Auto Studio assembled - but not fully completed. I have seen it everyday and I think she's super sweet. There is not a person that enters EC Auto Studio nowadays that does not compliment her.
Though for me, I explained to him, someday I hope I will come across her all completed and out in her element. Then I will take a step back and really get to appreciate this "Super Kool" stang. Lets hope its soon. Keep you posted. To see the complete build so far, visit out website (link in bio).

Well it happened again! I was scrolling a little on Instagram - and then - there they were. Two awesome care we at EC Auto Studio had restored many years go. Sitting there, presented in a field, looking as awesome as they did when we first refinished them 28 years ago.

The sweet 1940 Ford was refinished in 1997, and the "Kool" '38 Chevy was completed in 1998.

I know I've said it before, but this is what is so special. All the hard work - the dedication to the process yields not only two super satisfied clients when first completed, but decades later still being enjoyed by the owners and the people that are fortunate enough to view them in their glory.

As a small business owner, this is incredibly satisfying and makes it all so worth it.

Our last 2 posts have been of past EC Auto Studio project cars that have been seen posted throughout social media on display at various car gatherings.

Well sure enough, just the other day I came across this "super kool" 1960 Bug Eye Sprite. The owner had posted pics of his ride at the Hempstead Spring Dust Off and some kool hardware she brought home.

Back in 2020 we were contacted by the owner. He had been hit in the rear and not only wanted to repair the collision damage, but also refinish the entire car. This sweet Bug Eye is owner built - he just needed a hand making the outside look as trick and awesome as the rest of her.

She looked super sweet then - and judging by the trophies and the crowd recognition - looks just as fine today. Once again this is the cherry on top. Kool cars out and about with our clients and all others to appreciate and enjoy for years to come!
