Hey if you are doing your first turbo build, the absolute last thing on your mind should be
1. Your boost controller.
2. Making a power.

The vast majority of turbo cars out there are lucky to get up to operating temp off the trailer without something starting on fire.
Make sure your plug wires do not touch any part of the exhaust. Even if you have some sh*tty fiberglass wrap on your manifolds, they are going to burn though. Even if you have some of those useless fiberglass sleeves on your wires, they will burn through.
Make sure you have big enough return lines off of the turbo. I like to run an inline regulator to mine. Your 90psi on cold starts and 80psi hot at 7000 rpm is actually not amazing on turbo seals.
If your fuel system is new, it's not a bad idea to cruise around for a while on the new build and then clean the injectors out again before actually making passes. I personally try to always run the old injectors on the new system for a while just to be 100% safe, then swap them to the new larger ones. I have had a 100% success rate doing this.
Your hellcat pump needs 10 gauge wire, minimum.
Amazon coils suck. Most aftermarket coils suck. If they are $90 new from gm each and you buy a full set for $123 they are probably going to ruin one of your pistons at a minimum.

Everyone has their own way of going about things and I'm sure this will upset people. But you really need to try to just get through a full season on your new build on gate pressure before going crazy. Finding out that your in tank fuel hose you put in that isn't rated for e85 blew off is a lot easier on things on 6psi than 18.

Wanted to post this turd as it progresses further along. I have been using my Escalade for a ton of R&D over the years to see what fails, what doesn't, what works, what doesn't.

Picked this up at the end of 2021 with 185k miles if I remember right. It had already had the dod lifters replaced with factory new replacements and a new factory cam. At 188k, they failed 😂

Swapped in a texas speed stage 1 ls3 cam. Stock converter still, as I figured once the 6l80 failed I would go ahead and replace that and the leaky rear main seal.

Around 210k I was towing my monte to Arizona for an event. Someone really didn't want to let me around them and I gave her the beans. Jokes on me because a few hours into a 24 hour drive my converter started slipping HARD.

Pulled into a rest stop, maxed out line pressure to the converter, moved up shifts a bit further, and locked it out of 6th in tow haul. Made it to Arizona and back without issue.

Swapped the fluid out when I got back with some of the BG stuff they recommend for the 6 speeds, and since have pulled my car on a trailer to Tennessee and towed my big boat of a wagon back from the coast of north carolina. I typically am not a slow driver, and this vehicle has once or twice seen 240 degrees engine and trans temps in some of the mountain passes while towing.

So far the only annoying failure it has was the rocker arms. The needle bearings gave up after roughly 30k miles with dual springs and the cam. Only on the intake rockers, the exhaust rockers that aren't offset held up fine. Replaced a few and installed the summit rocker trunnion bearings and so far so good.

Since then it has seen a lot of 4wd low time at Moab, multiple trails in Colorado, and more time under the sawzall. Most of these places an escalade should have never gone, but it has driven to them, and driven home. I am impressed by the factory features on here as well being a 2012 for offroading I did not expect. If I am on an incline and let off the brake, it will apply them for me to keep the vehicle from rolling back. The factory traction control works fantastic while going over rocks as well. First sign of spin on any tire and the brake lightly applies the spinning side, and the other side grabs and pops me over.

Currently at 260k about. At some point I swapped in 4.10 gears, a manual transfercase from a 2002 ish 2500, front shocks from a 1500 pickup, levelling blocks, and rear springs from a z71 suburban. Tires are a 315/70/17 wildpeak.
After all of this, my MPG has gone from about 17mpg cruise set at 70 on long trips stock, to 13mpg.

Still have the factory cats/ y pipe. I camp in this thing regularly and enjoy not smelling like exhaust, so they will stay even though I know long tubes would benefit me.

I found that a 0w30 oil in the winter is the sweet spot. It doesn't spike oil pressure when cold and holds up perfect once it warms up. 5w30 or 10w30 in the summer.

Next plans will be a better radiator and a bigger trans/ oil cooler set up. I also have a 14 bolt rear end from a rwd escalade I would like to swap in. So far I have managed to ruin not one, but 2, high mile g80 differentials. Big surprise.

It's getting to that time of the year, so before you schedule a dyno or dyno tune let's talk about fuel pumps.
The a1000 will do like 550-600 absolute tops to the tire on the best day, boosted on e85 through an unstalled automatic.
The walbro 450 is good for mid 500s ish, hellcat pump is 600 ish.

If you want in tank, double up or run 3. Always run the decondaries on a hobbs switch or controller so it doesn't heat the crap out of your fuel. If you are running inline, run a big old weldon. They are badass. There are lots of brushless inline and in tank options too, but always be aware of what pressure and what fuel a pump is rated at.

Holley likes to rate pumps on carbs (6 psi) and pump gas. Typically a pump designed for 6psi is going to be terrible at 70 psi.

This is a build we did years ago.
-Coilover conversion
-tubular front suspension
-wilwood brakes front and rear
-very large cam 5.3/ 4l60 combo
-headers and exhaust
-full fuel system with an in tank pump
-wire tuck
-custom gauges.

Came back in recently for a
-posi unit
-4.10 gears
-full engine regasket
-quick ratio steering gear
-vintage air conversion

Absolutely love how this thing drives now.

I'll be posting a good video on this 2019 trackhawk build we did soon.

Red lines are stock tune with a cold air intake, 91 octane.
Blue is tuned with cold air intake and e85, full fore triple pump fuel system and injectors
Green is 10% lower pulley, 2.75 upper pulley, catted long tube headers, and e85-
It makes more down low but we were fighting for traction on the dyno so we had to roll into the throttle.

That is a 38% increase in power and torque over stock.

Using the factory rating of 707 at the crank, that puts us at about 975 horsepower at the crank.

Two cars in the last few days came in with broken plugs. This is super super common on stuff with longtube headers. Sometimes it's easy to angle the ratchet at a way that slightly cracks them on install. I think I've had 100 cracked plugs come in over the years and I can normally pick it up by ear, but always good to check on your own stuff if you ever feel a slight vibration or hesitation going up hills.

Stopped down at the secretary of state's office and put in my trade name renewal.
10 years Barnyard Garage has been here.
10 years ago I put my gto up as collateral on a loan that was certainly not enough to start a business on. Got a lift, air compressor, had my basic tools as a tech and a welder.
At the time I was going to school for cad and working for my friend Jeff at LSX. I walked into it figuring if I made it even for a year running my own business I would call it a big success.
I had my butt handed to me many times over the years, but I definitely feel like even the worst of the worst moments were worth it and helped shape me into who I am today.
To another 10 years 🦅

Oh also I need ideas on what I should do for a shop party. Might wait until it's warmer out/have food/etc on a weekend.

This car came in for a tune and torque tube bearings because of some noise at idle with the clutch not depressed. It already had billet couplers added and a twin disk clutch, so it will be louder than stock, but the bearings really cleaned it up.
The car has a very mild cam from what we can tell, so sounds great and makes a ton of torque.
