How to Avoid the Body Shop After Prom Night and/or Graduation Night

As excited as your child is for prom night and/or graduations, you might feel anxious. This is perfectly understandable. Although these nights allow them to celebrate their hard work at school and make memories with their friends, it also presents opportunities for trouble or even injury. If you want your teen to enjoy their special days and avoid a trip to the body shop, consider the following tips.

1. Set Rules for the Car

Whether your child is borrowing your vehicle or taking their own, don’t hesitate to set boundaries on their vehicle usage. For example, by limiting the number of people allowed in the car at one time, you can help your child avoid accidents caused by distracted driving. This will keep your child safe and help avoid a trip to the body shop. Be firm with your teen when forbidding them to allow anyone else to get in the driver’s seat. While you may trust your child, you can’t speak for other teens, and neither can your insurance policy.

2. Establish a Curfew

Although your teen might deserve some time to let loose and take it easy, driving home too late could lead to accidents caused by fatigue. Since they’ll spend most of the evening dancing and socializing, remind your child how their energy levels could affect their judgment and reaction time on the road. While a curfew extension is reasonable for prom night and graduation night, make sure to set an exact time that your teen should be back home. That way, you’ll know when to expect them, and they can mentally prepare for the end of their night.

3. Talk About Drinking

It may not be the easiest conversation to have with your teen, but drinking on prom night and/or graduation night is more of a threat to their safety than anything else. Instead of stressing the dangers of alcohol in general to your child, speak with them candidly about the deadly relationship between drinking and driving. Explain that while some teens may experiment with substances without telling their parents, their safety behind the wheel is your utmost priority. Remind them that while damage to the car can be fixed at a body shop, some injuries can have far more serious consequences. If they plan to drive to prom and back, consuming alcohol or drugs could endanger themselves and their friends on this special night.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026! Wishing all graduates a bright and successful future as you embark on the next chapter of your journey.

5 Top Tips for Washing Your Car in Your Driveway

Regular maintenance is essential for keeping your vehicle looking like new. If your car just has a moderate buildup of dust or mud, then a simple car wash in your own driveway should be sufficient to restore it to its former glory. However, it’s also important for you to keep an eye out for dents, scratches, or other signs of damage that you can have fixed. Here are some essential tips to keep in mind as you wash your car.

1. Choose the Right Day

Auto Body paint reacts to fluctuating temperatures and can be damaged if you wash your car on an especially hot day in direct sunlight. It’s best to choose a cool or overcast day for this activity.

2. Wet the Car Fully

If you go over the vehicle with a dry cloth, it simply moves dirt and debris around along the surface of the car, which can cause scratches and lodge that dirt into the small crevices of the car. It’s essential that you go over the entire vehicle with a water hose to get rid of surface dust before you start scrubbing.

3. Use Gentle Cleansers

There are cleansers made specifically for car washing that won’t damage or fade the paint. Some people feel it’s easier to use dish soap or other household cleaners, but they can wear away at the paint and ruin the finish. Make sure you’re using car wash shop for the best results.

4. Wash from the Top Down

Throughout every step of the process, from hosing down the vehicle, to cleaning, to drying, you should be working from top to bottom. This ensures that there won’t be any leftover soapy residue on the car after you’ve gone over it.

5. Look for Damage

As you wash your car, make sure you carefully inspect it for any dents, scratches, loose trim and hail damage. If you notice something, bring it into us right away to prevent it from rusting and ruining the finish of your vehicle.

If you do notice signs of damage while washing your car, bring your car into Miracle Workers Auto Collision Center. Our auto body shop is staffed with experienced professionals who are equipped to provide you with the best repair services possible.

5 TIPS FOR PROTECTING YOUR CAR PAINT IN WINTER

Winter can be one of the harshest seasons for your car. Precipitation, deicing chemicals, and mud can all cling to your vehicle and corrode your paint, putting the panels and frame at risk. Below we have offered some tips to keep your car looking fresh this time of year.

1. Wash Regularly

Even in the winter, your car is exposed to various contaminants, including road salts, rainwater, dirt, and debris. Salt is extremely corrosive, and leaving it on your car’s body can lead to significant scratches and deterioration. Washing the car regularly will prevent the accumulation of these abrasive materials.

2. Scrape Carefully

Hard plastic scrapers are effective at removing snow and ice from window glass, but they will only damage your paint. The next time precipitation is in the forecast, pick up a soft snow brush or a foam broom. Warming up the car before you start cleaning it can help loosen stubborn ice, so you don’t have to scrape as hard.

3. Add More Wax

You wear a winter coat for protection from the cold, and your vehicle also needs an extra layer of coverage. A fresh coat of wax shields the paint against damage from salt, dirt, and moisture. Don’t stop with polymer wax – use a spray sealant for additional long-lasting paint protection.

4. Always Find Cover

The best way to protect your car’s paint is to park in a garage or other covered area. Leaving a vehicle out in the open makes it vulnerable to winter debris, putting the paint at risk. If you can’t find shelter, then use a high-quality car cover.

5. Schedule Early Spring Detailing Services

Just before spring starts, have the car detailed to remove all traces of winter from your paint. Detailing involves a thorough cleaning to get rid of surface imperfections and enhance the appearance of your vehicle. It also includes polishing and waxing to protect the paint and restore its shine.

4 Tips for Driving Safely at Night

As the nights grow longer, you may find yourself driving in the dark more frequently. This can increase your risk of an accident that requires a trip to a body shop, but there are a few simple actions you can take to stay safe. Below is more information about how to alter your driving habits so that you do not have an accident.

How to Increase Nighttime Driving Safety

1. Be Aware of Lighting

Quick changes in lighting are temporarily blinding, especially at night. Never look directly into another vehicle’s headlights. When driving in two-way traffic, angle your gaze away from oncoming headlights, and toward the side of the road. Watch the lane markings to the right to keep the car on track.

Also, check the aim of your headlights before driving so that they don’t interfere with other drivers. You should do this after any bulb replacements, headlight installations, or wheel alignments. If you must adjust the headlights, you should simulate the normal operation closely. Do this on level ground. Different manufacturers have different guidelines for headlight measurements, so check the owner’s manual for details.

2. Clean the Windshield

Dirt particles on the glass will distort vision. A smudged windshield is especially dangerous during dawn and dusk, since it will catch and reflect the sun in unexpected ways. Regularly clean the windshield with a glass cleaner and microfiber cloth to remove any debris. Fill your wiper fluid reservoir and ensure that the blades don’t smear or streak. This will ensure your windshield remains clean even while driving.

3. Reduce Speeds

Low visibility situations lead to overdriving. This happens when the stopping distance to avoid a hazard is greater than the visible road. Typically, headlights can only illuminate obstacles 150 to 250 feet in front of the vehicle, but a car traveling at 60 miles per hour needs 300 feet to stop.

Abrupt animal crossings in the dark are a frequent cause of visits to body shops. However, slowing down can provide more stopping distance so that you avoid these accidents. Typically, you should drive up to 10 mph slower than normal during the dark.

4. Monitor Fatigue

Tiredness lowers your ability to focus and increases reaction time to hazards. If you start feeling tired, the safest method is to pull over and rest or change drivers. Attempting to combat fatigue through loud music or caffeine is not effective, as you can still fall asleep.

If your vehicle experiences damage and you are in need of a body shop, contact Miracle Workers Auto Collision Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. We understand that body shop visits can seem complicated and we take pride in supporting our customers throughout the process.

5 Steps to Take if you Hit a Large Animal With Your Vehicle

One of the keys to gaining experience as a young driver is knowing what to do in unforeseen situations, such as a collision with a large animal. While this is a stressful experience, you can minimize your repair time at a body shop by knowing how to react. Below are several strategies to follow if you have an accident with an animal.

What Should You Do After Hitting a Large Animal While Driving?

1. Move Your Car
Immediately after hitting the animal, pull to the side of the road or another safe location, such as a parking lot. If you cannot move the vehicle, activate the hazard lights. Turning these on will signal your location to other drivers, allowing them to pass you carefully. If both the car and the animal are in the middle of the street, use road flares or reflective triangles to clearly mark the accident.

2. Contact the Police
Next, call 911 to inform the local police department about the accident and animal, especially if you are in the middle of the road and pose a risk to other drivers. Emergency services will arrive to provide medical attention to you and any passengers, as well as file a police report. This documentation provides proof of the incident for insurance purposes if your vehicle has serious damage and must go to a body shop.

3. Avoid the Animal
Do not get near the animal since it is likely injured and scared, and can bite or scratch you. Whether the animal is a domestic pet or wildlife, call the local animal control service to discuss how to proceed. If you hit a dog, use caution because even friendly pets can retaliate out of fear.

4. Document the Incident
Take pictures and videos of the vehicle, road, injuries, and animal to submit with your insurance claim. If there were any witnesses to the accident, get their contact information. Provide your carrier with the information to support your claim.

5. Request Towing Service
Call a local towing company to take the vehicle to a body shop. Never risk driving with issues such as broken lights, tire damage, or leaking fluid, as you can further damage the vehicle. Wait in your car if it is safe to do so, or somewhere nearby where other drivers can see you.

Want to Avoid Trips to the Body Shop? Don't Park Here

In the midst of a hectic day, you might find yourself settling for whatever parking space you find first. However, being careless with your choice could ultimately send you to a body shop with a damaged vehicle. To protect your car and wallet, avoid parking in these three dangerous places.

1. Beneath Trees
As the wind rustles branches and squirrels sprint along the boughs, trees inevitably drop twigs, nuts, and other debris onto the ground below. In bad weather, a branch could even fall. Therefore, if your car is parked underneath, you may see dents and discoloration from these falling objects. If you park under a tree in search of shade, avoid body shop repairs by parking beneath a carport or overhang instead.

2. Near the Grocery Store
Whether you’ve spent the day on your feet or don’t want to get caught in the rain, it’s natural to search for a parking spot closest to the grocery store. Unfortunately, the closer you are to the action, the more likely it is to suffer damage from other drivers hastily parking or pulling out. It also raises the risk of stray carts rolling down the roadway and into your vehicle. Play it safe by parking away from the mayhem and walking a bit further.

3. Near Damaged Vehicles
While even the best of drivers can get into an accident, cars with obvious dents or other injuries should raise a red flag. Neglecting to take their car into a body shop to have the damage fixed could imply a certain lack of care for their vehicle—and subsequently, others’. Therefore, if there is an option, choose a better-maintained car to be your neighbor.

If your car has fallen victim to any of these poor parking spots or any other collision damage, get in touch with Miracle Workers Auto Collision Center. We are dedicated to helping drivers restore their cars to pristine condition after any incident.
