6 years ago I started this account to post kayaking trips around Nebraska... I never thought it’d turn into a business — But it did, for 5 years, until I closed it. It’s been a year, and I wanted to give you an update...
This big idea started during the pandemic. I was burned out and hurried…kayaking was showing me a much needed slower rhythm to life. Nights catching bass at sunset. Paddling rivers. It was so good I wanted to share it.
My dad and my friend Brett helped me get Lincoln Paddle Co. going — 5 summers, about 7k people on the water. Incredible, and incredibly hard. I tried to make it my main income, and that was the mistake. I had to close it.
Last summer, my Paddle Co friend Sam joined me floating rivers across the state — meeting people, hearing their stories. I made a short film. Finally just booked a theater, thought maybe ten people would show. So many of you came. I was so grateful.
This summer we kept it going — a Wednesday night float meetup. One full moon night, over 50 people showed up. People who’ve sailed around the world, built their own paddleboards, climbed mountains — all finding the same thing I was.
What this summer taught me is what happens when people get together outside. Something unlocks — connection, perspective, a kind of belonging I don’t think we find enough of anymore. I don’t think this chapter is closed. I think there’s a bigger dream here, a different one in a way — to help people get outside still.
That’s the idea behind a Local Adventure Club — a third space for people who love to adventure, even here in Lincoln, Nebraska. The simple version: once a month, over breakfast, hearing someone share about their own adventure. Down the road, that might turn into a cheap yearly membership, one that helps fund equipment for small, curated on-the-water events again next summer.
