Sunday was hard. There’s no sugarcoating it — we failed in some areas, and we know that. We understand many of you were frustrated, and everyone who chose to leave and requested a refund received one. We take responsibility for that.
What many people didn’t see behind the scenes was a staff that was doing everything they could under a lot of pressure. We had equipment issues, unexpected challenges, and a long night trying to work through problems the best way we knew how. That does NOT excuse our mistakes, but it is the reality of what happened.
DJ has spoken on numerous occasions with both current and past promoters, asking questions, seeking advice, and trying to learn from people who have done this before. We did not walk into this thinking we knew it all — we have asked for guidance and are doing everything we can to figure this out as we go.
We also have to recognize the conditions we’ve been dealing with. This has been one of the driest years in over 130 years, and when we took over, there was no moisture in that track more than a foot deep. We started with conditions that were already a huge challenge, and we have been working hard ever since to try to build something raceable and safe. We are trying.
What is never okay is screaming at, threatening, or verbally attacking our staff. Some of our team members — including women who were simply trying to do their jobs — were spoken to in ways that no one should ever have to tolerate. We ask that if you come to Dawson County Raceway, you treat our staff, volunteers, drivers, and fellow fans with basic respect.
This is only our second race night as promoters. There is no handbook for this, no training course, and no magic answer. We stepped into this knowing it would take hard work, sacrifice, and learning as we go. We’ve invested our own time, energy, money, and hearts into trying to bring racing back to our community, and yes — we are learning some hard lessons along the way.
To the fans and drivers who stuck it out with us, supported us, and showed us grace through a rough night — thank you. We appreciate you more than you know.
To everyone else: we hear your frustrations, we understand where we fell short, and we will learn from this. We are not quitting. We will work hard, make improvements, and come back next week better than we were this week.
We know we failed in some areas Sunday night. We own that. Now all we can do is fix it, learn from it, and keep moving forward.
Thank you to those who continue to stand with us. We appreciate you tremendously.
