New camp announcement!

Poughkeepsie, NY, here we come!

Crankin Engines 1 is a 3-day, 4 hour/day camp that teaches disassembly and reassembly of a Briggs and Stratton flat head push mower engine. Crankin Engines 2 follows up with an optional 2-day add-on that teaches bowl carburetors, overhead valves, maintenance, and diagnostics.

No boring bookwork, no lame note-taking, just busy hands and minds. Not to brag, but it's usually my students' favorite camp of all time. It is really fun to watch the students crank the engines at the end and do their victory dance.

3 days of nonstop Crankin Engines fun, plus an optional 2 more days of CE2 to make it stick!

Disassemble and reassemble a Briggs and Stratton flat head push mower engine, then crank it to see if it runs! It's an intense 3 four-hour days to learn the tools, mechanics, physics, math, chemistry, and biology of an engine!

For CE2, we'll update into the world of bowl carburetors and overhead valves, maintenance and some diagnostics. CE2 is a bit more chill and discovery-led, but the same amount of hands-on fun.

Drum roll please!

First mouse/chipmunk nest of the season!

Nests in your engine can cause major engine damage because it prevents the cylinder head and block from dissipating the heat and causes it to overheat. They can also chew on the wires, removing the insulation and starting a fire or a no-start condition.

Telltale signs of mouse nests include grass clippings and insulation poking out of the heat shields around the spark plug wires and additional signs like cracked nuts and piles of grass and dirt.

Taking the blower housing off usually only involves removing six or seven bolts from around the edge.

If you suspect mouse damage, give MechaniChics a call.

For my MechaniChics clients, yes, I'm still working, scheduling services and repairs. I'm also scheduling my summer camps, as you can tell.

For equipment service, I'm scheduling clients by neighborhood this year when possible to minimize traveling delays. I'm also trying to keep you on the same schedule year to year, so you can expect more consistency from me. I'm leaving repairs and evaluations for Fridays.

I'm also a homeschooling mom who has to manage school work for my kiddos and their multitudinous activities, and we have one vehicle.

Thanks for sticking with MechaniChics, and don't be surprised when different family members arrive with me - it makes this business work well. I love working with my people. That includes YOU!
