Trust but verify!!!

Been watching the TV series, "Scorpion" on Roku, caught a glimpse of what looked like a Karmann Ghia taillight. It was too hard to pause on the spot, so I "googled" to get confirmation. The AI overview (drawing from various sources) was pretty clear: no such vehicle in the show. And I was fine with that... until I happened upon two episodes showing more than a taillight, and solid proof that the internet may NOT always be RIGHT!!

Got to take the machine out --finally!!-- for a run to check the steering. While much of the slop is gone, I still feel just a bit of play while maintaining a straight run in my lane. Ironically, it seems "just a hair" better than what I started wirh last summer! So I'm pondering what lesson the Good Lord wants me to take away from this:

Okay!! Got the old gal all put together, incorporating lessons learned from the first box swap.

Joined the steering column to the box with the existing flexible coupling (which is still like new, seeing I got it for the last time I was doing this), then double-checked that I properly grounded the horn circuit... BEEP-BEEP!! 🎺 After installing the gas tank, I grabbed my multimeter and conducted continuity checks so I know the fuel gauge will work. Added the gasoline i siphoned out, flipped the ignition for electricity, and watched the needle bounce. ⛽️

Things aren't looking too good... Been a bit busy with family matters this week, and haven't touched the steering box. E...

Things aren't looking too good...

Been a bit busy with family matters this week, and haven't touched the steering box. Even if I had the old gal put back together, AccuWeather has been throwing me threats of thunderstorms or flooding every location I had my eye on.

Gotta remind myself: God isn't saying "No!" He's saying "Not now..." ⏰️⏰️⏰️

Been keeping this under my hat until I had "physical evidence"... the old gal is going to be famous!

Submitted a photo and a little write-up of Deirdre to Rock Auto, requesting my vehicle be considered for display on their magnetic "business cards." They add these cards in each order they fill/ship, showing off a fleet of vehicles that have been built with the products they provide... and they ship to almost every continent on the planet! A couple months ago, I figured maybe they could do a little boasting with MY car....

I got the approval via email last month, along with a note that a pack of the magnets was on the way... and, this afternoon FedEx just dropped it on my porch!

Refurbishing the box was the EASY part...

I stuffed the two fill plugs in, then hit the whole thing one more time with engine degreaser last night, so I decided this evening to get the box situated atop axle beam... and now come the "fun".

It may just be me, but installing this thing is like attempting to solve a Rubix Cube during a yoga class!! Remember: NOT a real mechanic, don't play one on TV, and NEVER stayed at a Holiday Inn Express. I did this once, I'm certain I can do it again.

With the prospects of having the old gal off the jack stands and on the road, I'm looking to run to a show this coming weekend. Choices abound, but the final decision will depend on the weather (and, possibly, how early I'm willing to get myself out of bed!)
