For about the same cost as professionally applied painting, Powder Coating offers superior finishes, combined with excellent durability, which reduces maintenance cost (re-cleaning & repainting) and extends the life of the item and is particularly beneficial for parts expo
sed to harsher conditions such as moisture and chemicals. Unlimited color availability and color matching gives you more color choices than a rainbow. And with a second coating of semi gloss to high gloss "clear powder", not only can help to slow UV fading and acid rain effects, but the clear coat also works great on polished parts to eliminate constant polishing! For industrial applications a base coat of zinc rich primer can provide a additional protection from corrosion. Powder coating is versatile and can be used on springs without cracking. Powder Coating sounds "high tech" and "futuristic", but actually it is very simple and has been around for about 50 years. When a formulation was developed for finely ground "plastic" powder, the powder coating industry began. After sandblasting the part to a bare metal surface, a special electrostatic spray gun, with 30,000 to 90,000 volts, is used to apply a thin layer of "plastic" powder onto the surface of the part to be coated. The powder is held onto the part by static electricity. Once coated, the parts are oven baked at 375 degrees Fahrenheit. The oven cures the dry powder to a "gel state" and then further curing causes this gel to harden into a very tough "plastic" coating. This flowing and fusing of the coating in the final curing oven creates a continuous coating, which is very hard and has no porosity. Because Powder Coating does not use solvents, there are no toxic chemicals released into the air, thus EPA regulations do not add expense to this process. Powder Coating technology offers the consumer an alternative to liquid coatings that is economical, efficient, and environmentally friendly. It produces a high quality finish and is available in a broad range of colors, glosses, and finish textures (smooth, wrinkle, hammer tone, antique, & clear coats).
