I’ve been driving this car every chance I get, it is one of the most fun cars I have ever driven! 800 miles on the swap. First gear is a bit low, but otherwise the gearing pairs excellent with this engine. The combination of the cammed LS, 180 degree headers, and modified Porsche mufflers create a unique sound that suits the car well.

3.90 gears and a TrueTrac install in this 5th-gen Camaro.

I often get asked about what gear ratio is “best”. While that greatly depends on the vehicle, powertrain setup, tire size, and usage, my answer (for LS/6-speed street cars) is usually 3.90!

IMO it’s the best all around gear for power/cruising compromise. Sure, a 4.10/4.30/4.56 gear will accelerate harder, but 3.90 has better cruising rpm range.

LS-swapped Porsche 😈

Wow, this car is soooo much more fun to drive now! I’m really happy with this swap, I was able to keep all the factory gauges working, and the gas pedal- which I had to combine Porsche and GM gas pedals for fitment/function for the drive-by-wire throttle. The headers and modified factory mufflers keep it sounding Porsche-ish.
