Your bike works harder than your car and gets detailed half as often.

Motorcycles punish lazy washing more than any car will. A few things that actually matter:

• Never dish soap — it strips every bit of protection off paint and dries out rubber and vinyl. pH-neutral soap only.
• Don’t blast water at the air intake, electronics, wheel bearings, or straight into the chain. Low pressure around the sensitive stuff.
• Dry the chain and l**e it after every wash. A wet chain starts surface-rusting overnight.
• Tank and plastics get microfiber only — paper towels and old rags swirl them fast. Matte paint? No wax, ever — matte-specific soap or you’ll gloss it out.
• Brake dust eats wheel finishes. Clean wheels regularly, don’t let it bake on.

Black paint shows everything. That’s the gift and the curse.

That liquid-mirror finish only happens when the paint is actually clean and on black, every sin is visible: swirl marks from drive-through car washes, water spots baked in by sprinklers, haze from cheap spray wax. Here’s how to keep black looking wet:

• Two-bucket wash, always. One for soap, one for rinsing the mitt. That’s 90% of swirl prevention right there.
• Dry with a blower or a plush microfiber — never a bath towel, never air-dry. Dragging dirt across the paint is how scratches happen.
• Skip the drive-through. Those brushes are holding grit from every car that went before you.
• Ceramic coating is black paint’s best friend. It adds a sacrificial layer so dirt slides off in the wash and the gloss stays deep instead of dulling out.
