Close encounter with a black widow during an engine detail.

It was under the engine cover, inches from my fingers when I flipped the cover over.

More posts to come of this monstrous job. Hoping there will be no more wildlife encounters while de-wildernessing this SUV. Stay tuned.

More before and afters of the paint correction on the Range Rover hood.

Texture removal, filled a couple of deeper scratches using a fine line pen and force cured the touch up paint (mostly clear coat) before completing the sanding. Compounded and polished to remove the last of the imperfections caused during the sanding process, principally micromarring and hazing.

These after photos were taken before the primer and the ceramic coating were applied. I left the hood to rest for a week to allow the paint to reacclimate after all the attention it received and ensure no defects returned after gently re washing, decontaminating, claying and panel prepping.

Put my big boy pants on to get some serious paint correction done on this repainted Range Rover hood.

Dry sanded and wet sanded with by machine and by hand for contours to level texture (orange peel) and be able to achieve maximum depth, luster and gloss. Then, cut, polished, and primed before coating.

Hologramming, depicted in the first picture, is detailing done poorly, unnecessarily, and/or partially.

Google AI defines this type of paint imperfection as 'faint, 3D-looking swirl marks (like "zebra stripes") left by improper machine polishing, often with a rotary buffer and wool pad, especially when not followed by proper refinement steps (finishing pads, polishes) to remove micro-scratches from a more aggressive initial cut stage.'

Choose who details your vehicles wisely so you don't have to get your car or truck detailed after already having it detailed. Get it detailed right the first time. And question a paint correction quote that is much less than comparable quotes, or has a rapid turnaround time. No car can be washed, decontaminated and paint corrected in 1 to 2 hrs. A lot of time and energy goes in to safely and properly performing this service.
