Right off the Pike in Lee β National Coffee Day is real and it's free. β Loyalty members, your coffee's on us today. Largest size, on principle.
PITTSFIELD, MASS. β On National Coffee Day, an area man arrived at the Lipton Market on South Street for his usual coffee, was informed it was free for Lipton Loyalty members, and reportedly needed a moment.
The man, who sources confirm observes National Coffee Day "the way other people observe Thanksgiving," said he had been waiting all year. "Every other holiday asks something of you. Gifts, travel, small talk," he said, cradling a large Green Mountain coffee he did not pay for. "This one just gives. No notes. Perfect holiday."
Witnesses report the man arrived early "to beat the rush of people who don't appreciate it like I do," selected the largest available size "on principle," and stood a moment with his eyes closed before the first sip. He is said to have thanked the coffee machine, the cashier, and "whoever runs the calendar."
Asked whether it was strange to feel this strongly about a free coffee, the man said the question was "deeply sad, honestly," confirmed he had already texted three people to remind them "it's our day," and noted that a free coffee "on the correct day, in the correct size" was "as close to justice as the world currently offers." He intends to observe the holiday again next year, "and every year I'm able."
The other 364 days could not be reached for comment. They know what they did.
