CHP FORT TEJON WELCOMES NEW COMMANDER

On March 1, 2025, the Fort Tejon Area of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) welcomed Lieutenant Rudy Alcaraz as the new Fort Tejon Area Commander. Lieutenant Alcaraz transferred to the Fort Tejon Area after serving as the Field Operations Lieutenant in the CHP Bakersfield Area.

Lieutenant Alcaraz is married with three children. He has lived in Kern County for over two decades. Lieutenant Alcaraz earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from California State University, Bakersfield. He graduated from the California Highway Patrol Academy in 2009. Lieutenant Alcaraz began his career as an officer assigned to the CHP Newhall Area and was later selected to be an academy instructor at the CHP Academy. He promoted to sergeant in 2016 in the CHP Bakersfield Area and promoted to lieutenant in 2023 in the CHP San Diego Area where he served as the Administrative and Field Operations Lieutenant. Lieutenant Alcaraz began his law enforcement career as an Explorer for the Delano Police Department where he also worked for several years as a public safety dispatcher, and also served as a corrections officer at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
