Rotary 101

1. Pad Angle & Control – Maintain consistent pad contact and avoid excessive edge pressure to prevent holograms, uneven correction, and paint damage.

2. RPM & Downward Pressure – Balance machine speed and pressure to achieve effective defect removal without excessive friction or clear coat removal.

3. Arm Speed & Heat Management – Keep the polisher moving at a controlled pace, monitor panel temperature, and avoid concentrating heat in one area.

The goal: Maximum correction, minimum clear coat removal, and a consistent, refined finish.

PART 5: THE DETAILS NOBODY NOTICES... UNTIL YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE!

The transformation continues!

We've tackled the major paint correction. Now it's time for the details most people overlook!

Exhaust heat damage to the clear coat. Dull chrome accents. Faded black mirror trim. Tired tail lights.

PART 4: NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE PERFECTLY SMOOTH!
The two passenger-side doors that were repainted?

Well, they came with a little extra something... ORANGE PEEL!

Orange peel is the uneven, textured appearance you often see in automotive paint. Even factory finishes have it!

Here's the important part: Our goal was NOT to create a glass-flat, show-truck finish.

We wanted those two doors to resemble the original factory texture and blend naturally with the surrounding panels.

Using 2,000-grit wet sanding, we carefully reduced the excessive texture, then compounded and polished the finish to restore its gloss, depth, and clarity.
Why not sand everything perfectly flat?

Because chasing a near-perfect, show-quality finish on a daily-driven truck means removing more clear coat than necessary, adding unnecessary labor and expense, and offering very little practical benefit.

The goal isn't perfection at any cost. It's achieving the best possible results while preserving the paint and making smart decisions for the vehicle and its owner.

Professional restoration isn't always about doing MORE. It's about knowing exactly how much to do... and when to stop.

PART 3: THE HOOD!

The previous rotary polishing job left behind a mess of holograms, buffer trails, and a hazy finish. What was supposed to improve the appearance actually made the paint look worse!

PART 2 : Saw the Taco from the previous post ? Well, here's where things get interesting!

You're looking at the driver's side rear door, covered in scratches, rotary holograms, and buffer trails left behind by improper polishing.

Watch closely as we zoom in toward the door handle...

AND BAM!

Same truck. Same paint. Completely different finish!

PART 1 : This 2010 Taco came to us a couple of weeks ago for Woolwax undercoating. But that was just the beginning of the story!

After seeing our work, the owner wanted to know what we could do to bring the exterior back to life.

Here's where things got interesting...

A body shop had previously refinished two doors on the passenger side. As an added courtesy, they decided to run a rotary polisher over the ENTIRE truck to give it a little extra shine.

Nice gesture. Unfortunately, the ex*****on left a lot to be desired.

Here's the problem: Cutting paint with a rotary is only part of the process. Without proper refinement afterward, you can leave behind holograms, buffer trails, and significant amounts of visible marring.

Instead of a clean, crisp finish, you end up with paint that looks like someone took a rotary polisher dancing across every panel!

And under the right lighting? Every mistake tells a story.

Now it's our turn to see how much clarity and depth we can safely restore without unnecessarily sacrificing clear coat.
