Preventative maintenance is important to avoid catastophic failure.
Bad coolant hoses don’t always leak. It’s best to inspect your coolant hoses and pipes for any external damage as well as any signs of a leak.

Checking fluids regularly can help avoid failure. This coolant reservoir cap seal has failed. This is a 2022 Mercedes GLC. New/newer vehicles are not exempt from failures like this.

2005 Mercedes ML500 auxiliary fan relay.
This vehicle needed a lot of repairs due to maintenance not done. The auxiliary fan was inoperable so I replaced it. While putting everything back together, the electrical connectors hit the frame and caused a spark at the battery that I forgot to disconnect.
The new fan tested fine so I went on to check all of my AC relays and found a reference to the relay attached to the positive battery terminal. I’ve never seen a relay like this. I did find a suitable replacement and the properly fitted holder on Amazon.
I’m confident that the car won’t overheat at stop lights and will be moving on to replacing the pads and rotors. Once the brakes are done, I can shift my focus to the inoperable AC.
I love it when they run, even better if they stop and it’s a bonus if the AC works.

It’s best to get your oil changed regularly to avoid sludge buildup up in your engine.

After a long slumber, the BMW 540i is back home. I noticed some small leaks and heard a squeal while driving. A quick check of fluids and leak points revealed a leaking water pump and alternator housing. The oil leak seems to come from the engine block where the timing cover attaches.
When a car sits for any length of time, rubber components like gaskets, hoses and belts can age faster. Always investigate any fluid leaks to avoid catastrophic failure.

I pulled the rear brake pads off our 2003 BMW 530i to replace a wheel bearing. The front pads and rotors are new and the car had no problems stopping. It’s wise to inspect common wear items before they become a problem.
The second photo is of a wheel hub puller removing the wheel hub assembly from the axle. It’s what sits behind the brake rotor.

It’s important to check your belt(s) when preparing for a trip or when you change your oil. I also check the fluid levels and make sure the tires are properly inflated.
The pulley with the orange towards the center is broken. The plastic should extend to the edge of the belt with a lip to prevent the belt from slipping off. 03 Mercedes SL500
