Are you interested in racing? New Mexico Race Collective is a state effort to organize races and run a series. They are friendly, and they make it about as easy and affordable as it can be to race. In the shared post, they share rules, guidelines and other need to know information for racers.
New Mexico Race Collective General Guideline for Desert Racing Events;
This guideline is intended to give an overview of the general practices of clubs and promoters who are members of the NMRC. Please refer to our rulebook for the official rules and regulations, this is just to give our racers an idea of what to expect, and what will be expected of you.
We are a new organization, formed in late 2022, to keep off road desert racing alive and thriving in New Mexico. NMRC is a non-profit, with a Board formed from representatives from the participating clubs or promoters. The central focus of the NMRC is to support desert racing clubs, provide a reliable scoring system, assign race numbers, and track overall points for year end trophies and awards.
Registration:
To participate in the NMRC Championship Series you can register online in MotoTally and pay a $20 registration fee. You can also register for the series at any of the events as part of sign up. All registered racers will be eligible for year end awards and contingencies. The Series Referee will confirm your number once your registration has been received. Register at www.nmracecollective.com
Race number assignments: Each racer must have an assigned NMRC number that will be used for the entire series. Racers can have a choice of a preferred number within their class range, provided it has not been assigned. Typically, a racer will request a number at the start of the year and have it confirmed before pre-entry for the first race. Racers can run the same number for consecutive years, provided they register for the series before the first scheduled race. The Pro/AA class can run earned numbers, from 1-10 depending on their overall standings.

NMRC uses MotoTally scoring system which requires each racer to have a transponder strip on their helmet for scoring. Every racer must bring their helmet to sign up. If you currently have a MotoTally strip, it will work fine, if not, transponder strips will be available for purchase at sign up for $10.00.
All entrants in any NMRC race must be AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) members. You can sign up on line at https://join.americanmotorcyclist.com. All individuals that attend our events are required to sign a Race Waiver for AMA insurance compliance. Please ensure that any of your pit crew or guests (who are not signing up to race) sign this waiver. This waiver and the AMA rulebook has several “notes” on how dangerous off roading, particularly racing can be. It is your responsibility to ensure your own safety by entering the proper class, having a mechanically sound dirtbike, following the rules and regulations, and riding/racing within your skill level.
There are Six (6) points paying events for 2024, with 1 (one) drop. All races will count toward year end points regardless of how many events you compete in. You must complete at least (4) races to qualify for year end awards. Ties will be broken in the following manner: 1) Total number of overall wins. 2)Total number of first place wins. 3)Last head to head win.
NMRC pays points per the following on each event to accumulate year end overall standings:

NMRC was formed to keep off road desert racing alive and well in NM. Our vision is to focus on the foundation of other successful nonprofit racing organizations, the desert clubs and promoters. Desert racing clubs bring so much to the sport and are effective way to grow and strengthen our community. To that end, the NMRC is going to pay generous work points (30 points) for racers that work one of the NMRC events. Joining (or just volunteering for) a club that promotes an event is something that every racer can do, and rather than forcing anyone, we will amply reward those who choose to do their part.
Each of the NMRC promoting clubs are open to membership and volunteers and will be paying work points in exchange for any series member who volunteers for their event. Terms of work in exchange for work points will be worked out directly with the promoting club or promoter.
To volunteer, please contact these club representatives directly!

Race Etiquette:
• Riders Meetings: All events will have a mandatory safety riders meeting the morning before the race. You must attend to ensure the safety of the event and possible hazards.
• Tech inspection of race bikes will be at the discretion of the club. Spark arrestors are always required, unless it is on closed course (tracks).
• It is suggested that you arrive on the start line 15 minutes before your scheduled start.
• All spectators and pit crew are not allowed on the course at any time. No pets or small children in pit row. No passing in pit row or in the scoring chute at any time. Pit speed is 10 mph, no exception. Any pitting must be done in the designated pit area only. Gas must be kept in proper containers.
• Race etiquette dictates that if another racer is coming up on you from behind, allow room for them to pass as soon as it is safe to do so.
• Unsportsman like conduct is not acceptable. Yelling at or abusing any race official, sign up volunteer, or crew by any racer or associated pit crew will result in an immediate disqualification.
• If you decide or are forced to quit a race, please come to sign up to let the club know you are safely in.
• Results of the race will be available the same day, usually within an hour after the last finisher. Once the results are posted, there will be a 30 minute protest period. Trophies will be awarded after the protest period ends (unless there is a protest then it might be longer). Racers can contact the club directly to claim any trophy after the event if they were unable to collect it on race day. Any protests of final race results must be made to the club within 10 days of the results being posted on MotoTally.
• Pack it in, pack it out!! Please ensure that your camping and pit area are thoroughly clean before you leave. Strong consequences will be imposed on any club/individuals who leave their trash out at our race sites!
