💡 SALVAGE TITLE vs. BLUE/CLEAN TITLE — WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
Shopping for a used vehicle? You may hear terms like “salvage title” or “blue/clean title.” But what do they actually mean? 🤔
Let’s keep it simple! 👇
🔵 BLUE / CLEAN TITLE
A clean title generally means the vehicle does not currently carry a salvage or rebuilt brand on its title.
✅ Typically easier to finance
✅ Usually easier to insure
✅ Generally has a higher resale value
✅ Has not been branded as salvage
⚠️ IMPORTANT: A clean title does not automatically mean a vehicle has never been damaged or involved in an accident. Always research the vehicle’s history and have it inspected.
🛠️ SALVAGE TITLE
A salvage title generally means the vehicle was previously declared a total loss or met the state’s requirements to be classified as salvage.
💰 It may be priced lower than a comparable clean-title vehicle
⚠️ Insurance and financing options may be more limited
📉 Resale value is generally lower
🔧 The vehicle’s condition and repair history are VERY important
❤️ SO… WHICH ONE SHOULD YOU BUY?
There isn’t one answer that’s right for everyone.
Your budget, insurance options, vehicle history, condition, and intended use should all be considered before making a decision.
And remember:
🔎 Ask about the vehicle’s history
🚗 Take it for a test drive
🔧 Have an independent mechanic inspect it
🛡️ Check insurance availability and cost BEFORE purchasing
📄 Make sure you understand the title you’re receiving
