Today, we pause to remember September 11, 2001.
Twenty-five years later, the images and stories from that day still carry a weight that is difficult to put into words. Memories that will stay with people across the world for their entire lives.
We remember those who lost their lives when American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center, and United Airlines Flight 175 struck the South Tower. We remember the innocent lives lost inside the buildings, aboard the planes, and the first responders who ran toward danger while so many others were trying to escape.
We remember the attack on the Pentagon, where American Airlines Flight 77 was deliberately flown into the building, forever changing countless families and leaving another scar on our nation.
And we remember United Airlines Flight 93—the passengers and crew who, after learning of the attacks, made the courageous decision to fight back. Their actions prevented the plane from reaching its intended target in Washington, D.C., and their bravery became an enduring example of extraordinary courage in the face of unimaginable circumstances.
Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 people whose lives were taken, the families whose lives were forever changed, the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMTs, emergency personnel, volunteers, and ordinary Americans who showed the very best of humanity in the midst of unimaginable evil. We remember and honor those who are still living with the mental and physical effects of this tragedy.
For many, September 11 is a day remembered in vivid detail. For others, it is history they learned about from parents, teachers, books, and memorials.
May we continue to tell the stories. May we teach the next generation not only about what happened-but about the courage, sacrifice, compassion, and unity that followed.
Today, we remember.
