Auto Facts for Lanett Motorists: Fuel Pump
Your fuel pump sends fuel from the fuel tank to the engine. Fuel pumps just wear out over time: it might be the electric motor, a sensor, a valve, or a relay or some other electrical component. Whatever the exact cause for the fuel pump failure may be, the solution for Lanett motorists is to replace the pump assembly. When one component has failed, another one is probably just around the corner so it makes sense for drivers to replace everything at once and save the future labor costs. The fue
5 Reasons To Keep Your Car Well-Maintained
Thanks for visiting the Hester's Tire & Auto auto care blog. Today's post lists 5 important reasons Lanett car owners should follow recommended maintenance schedules. 1. Be Safe A well-maintained car doesn't put you and your passengers at unnecessary risk. Think brakes, headlamps, tires. 2. Get Better Fuel Economy Regular maintenance is an investment in optimum gas mileage. Inadequate tire pressure, a dirty fuel system, and a clogged air filter are just a few things that reduce gas mileage. 3. P
Will Proper Auto Maintenance at Hester's Tire & Auto Really Save Gas?
Have you ever thought about all the little things we do to keep our lives running smoothly - like vacuuming? It makes a room feel fresher and more comfortable. We may not consider that we’re also prolonging the life of the carpet by keeping it clean. But Lanett motorists don’t always extend those good habits into the garage. Our SUVs need regular maintenance just like our rugs need vacuuming. We may not notice a difference in the feel or appearance of the vehicle, but, just as clea
Hester's Tire & Auto Auto Care and Car Repair: Anti-Lock Brakes
There’s a common misconception among Lanett motorists that Anti-Lock Brakes help you stop faster. That is not always the case on loose gravel or snowy surfaces. Anti-Lock Brakes, in fact, are designed to help you maintain control of your vehicle in an emergency braking situation. Imagine you are driving on a snowy Lanett road. You need to slam on your brakes and your rear wheels lock up. Chances are good that the rear end of your vehicle will try to pass the front end and you can easily
The Hester's Tire & Auto Guide for Lanett Drivers: MAF Filter
Air and fuel are mixed together to be burned in your engine. You request how much of each you need by how hard you press on the accelerator, or by going up or down a hill, or by how much you are carrying in your vehicle as your drive around Lanett. Based on how much air you need – and how much is available – your engine management computer sends the needed amount of fuel to your engine. But what if the computer is getting the wrong information about how much air is coming into your e
The Hester's Tire & Auto Guide to Buying a Used Vehicle
Used vehicles are certainly an economical choice for budget-conscious Lanett motorists. But how can we know we’re getting a good used vehicle and not just inheriting someone else’s problems? There are good used vehicles for sale in the West Point area. Cars are sold when families upsize, when families downsize, or even when someone just wants a new car. So the used vehicle may be just fine. But some Lanett used car owners sell vehicles because they don’t want to deal with dev
Hester's Tire & Auto News for Lanett: Power Steering Maintenance
Did you know that the first cars were steered with a tiller? They also took a lot of muscle to turn - especially at low speeds. Francis W. Davis developed hydraulic power steering which has been enjoyed by generations of AL drivers who can steer with one finger while sipping coffee or even with a knee while they stir in a packet of sugar. (We don't recommend either of these dangerous practices.) With hydraulics, fluid is pressurized by a pump which actuates a hydraulic cylinder that does the

20 Things Lanett Drivers Should Do After a Car Accident
1. Stay calm. Try not to panic. Be courteous. 2. Check yourself and others involved to see if there are injuries. In some states, failing to render medical aid is a crime. 3. Call an ambulance (911) if there are injuries that may need treatment. 4. Turn your hazard lights on. 5. If you keep flares and warning triangles in your vehicle, use them to alert other drivers in the area. Hester's Tire & Auto recommends that all drivers keep safety devices stored in their vehicle along with a first aid
Hester's Tire & Auto Professional Auto Maintenance: Heater Core
Lanett drivers may wonder where the warm air in your passenger compartment comes from. Well, as your engine starts to warm up, it also warms the coolant/antifreeze that circulates around the engine and through the radiator. There is also a hose that conveys coolant/antifreeze from the engine to the heater core and another that takes it back into the engine. The heater core looks like a little radiator and lives in the air blend box behind the dashboard. When auto owners turn on the heat, air b
Expert Auto Advice for Lanett: Air Blend Box
Lanett drivers push a few buttons or turn some k***s, and voila, they have toasty air blowing on their feet or cool air chilling their face. How does all that happen? Well, it’s all thanks to the air blend box. This box lives behind your dash and conveys just the right temperature of air right where you want it. Let’s break it down. First there is the blower fan that circulates the air through the heating/air conditioning system. The fan can blow at different speeds, depending on h
Simple Answers from Hester's Tire & Auto in Lanett: Winter Tires
Question: What is the benefit of winter tires? Hester's Tire & Auto Answer: This is a really good question. Most new vehicles in Lanett come with all-season tires that work pretty well in the West Point winter conditions many drivers encounter. First, let’s talk about the things that dedicated winter tires do really well, touch on all-seasons and then you should have some information to help you in your tire selection. The first thing about winter is that it’s cold. The rubber comp
Hester's Tire & Auto Car Care Advice: Thermostat
The thermostat is a vital part of your cooling system. Lanett car owners' vehicle thermostats perform a similar function to the thermostats in their homes. At home, you set your thermostat to maintain a comfortable temperature range. When your home gets too hot, the air conditioning kicks on and when it gets too cool, the heater turns on. Now your engine also has an optimal temperature range: warm enough to run efficiently and not so hot as to cause engine damage. Your vehicle’s thermost
Expert Auto Advice for Lanett: Antilock Brakes
Lanett car owners rely on their brakes to safely slow and stop their vehicles. You've probably had the experience where you’ve slammed on your brakes and started to skid. When your wheels are locked up, you are just sliding over the road. And if the road is wet or slick or covered with gravel – you really get out of control. Steering is next to impossible. That is why anti-lock brake systems (ABS) were invented: to help you maintain essential control in extreme stopping conditions
Hester's Tire & Auto Auto Maintenance Basics: Vent Cleaning
Ever get musky odors coming from your car’s air vents? It’s fairly common for Lanett auto owners. Moisture can usually accumulate in the air conditioning/heating ventilation system allowing mold, mildew, fungus, and bacteria to grow. Disinfecting and deodorizing is a straightforward process. Depending on how bad the problem is, there are a couple of approaches Hester's Tire & Auto may take to get rid of the unwanted smells. For mild situations (especially on newer vehicles), a spe
Vehicle Maintenance Tips from Hester's Tire & Auto: Axle
Question: I hear a clunking sound from my front wheel when I make a turn. What could be the issue? Hester's Tire & Auto Answer: One possible cause of the trouble for Lanett car owners is a worn axle. Front-wheel drive vehicles have axles that transfer power from the transmission to your front wheels. There is one for each front wheel. These axles are called constant velocity axles or CV axles for short. Lanett auto owners with rear-wheel drive vehicles have axles that are in back and run betwe
Hester's Tire & Auto Car Care News and Information: Radiator Fans
Lanett motorists who are old enough have probably heard the term “fan belt”. Back in the day the radiator fan in your vehicle was turned by a belt driven by the engine. There are still belt driven fans – although most are now driven by the serpentine belt. But most Lanett motorists now have electric fans that bring fresh air across the radiator to cool it. As coolant/antifreeze circulates in the cooling system it captures heat from the engine and flows into the radiator. Air
Automotive Solutions from Hester's Tire & Auto: Wiper Blade Design
Wiper blades may not be the most exciting topic for most Lanett drivers – but they are pretty important. Most of us Lanett drivers have had an experience when a sudden snow or rain storm hits while we’re driving; then when we turn on the wipers – nothing but streaks. This can be especially disconcerting at night when the glare of on-coming headlights distorts your vision. Simple answer: change your wiper blades BEFORE they fail. Check them out every couple of months just to s
Expert Auto Advice for Lanett: Gasoline Direct Injection

Simple Answers from Hester's Tire & Auto: Alignment
Question: How do I know when I need a wheel alignment? Hester's Tire & Auto Answer:When Lanett motorists' wheels are properly aligned they all point in the same direction. When they are out of alignment, most AL car owners notice a couple of things. First the SUV pulls to one side when driving. It could be slight or pretty severe. If your wheels have been out of alignment for a while, you’ll also start to see uneven tire wear – the shoulder on either the outside or inside of the t
Hester's Tire & Auto News for Lanett: Diesel Engines
When someone mentions diesels around Lanett – images of smoky, rattly trucks may spring to mind. The fact is that the modern clean diesel engine is much more refined than in the old days. Sure, diesel engines remain a very popular choice with heavy duty pick-up truck drivers in Lanett, but they are finding their way into nearly every segment of the AL automotive market. Why is that? Well, its science. Diesel fuel contains more energy than the same amount of gasoline. So it takes less

Hester's Tire & Auto Answer: A cabin air filter is a special filter that cleans the air that comes into the Lanett auto owners' passenger compartments – or cabin – of their vehicles. Most new vehicles sold in AL now have a cabin air filter. A cabin air filter catches dust, pollen, spores and other harmful pollutants before they can

When that car battery finally gives up the ghost and it’s time to replace it – brilliant Lanett auto owners have options. First, let’s be clear that you should always get a replacement battery that meets or exceeds your auto manufacturer’s specifications. But, you may have some critical special needs. When they first put the battery into your vehicle at the factory, the auto manufacturer had no idea where it would end up over its life or how YOU would use it where you
