If you have lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, or any other self driving features, your camera that does this is required to be recalibrated after a windshield replacement. We were the first shop in Wyoming to get trained how to do this, starting in 2017. We have seen lots of places across the country saying they're doing these calibrations and charging for them or offering them as a free add on, but not actually completing them. Its a good idea to ask for proof of a successful calibration with your vehicle's V.I.N. shown in the report. We print these reports for every calibration. This is an example.

A cheap, poorly installed windshield replacement poses serious safety and structural risks that far outweigh any initial cost savings. Windshields are integral to a vehicle’s safety systems, providing up to 30% of its overall structural strength and serving as critical backing for airbag deployment during a collision; when installed with substandard adhesive, improper curing, or low-quality glass, the new windshield may fail to bond correctly, allowing it to pop out or shatter under impact and turning a survivable crash into a potentially fatal one. Beyond immediate crash performance, rushed work often leaves gaps in the urethane seal, inviting water leaks that damage electronics, promote mold growth, and compromise the vehicle’s interior integrity over time. Poorly fitted glass can also create optical distortions or stress cracks that worsen visibility, while skipping critical steps like frame preparation or using inferior materials voids manufacturer warranties. In short, what seems like a bargain quickly becomes an expensive and dangerous liability, as the job will almost certainly need to be redone properly at full price.

Do you drive a Subaru with Eyesight? We will use original equipment Subaru glass for your car. Let's get in the habit of using the parts designed by the car manufacturers instead of Chinese aftermarket glass. We do 2-3 Subaru windshield replacements a week with original equipment Subaru glass.
After just short of 35 years in the glass business, I can't find any data for aftermarket glass crash testing, I've checked with every supplier, every industry insider and also other installers. No one can find one aftermarket glass manufacturer that does actual crash testing with their glass. Unlike the car manufacturers that are required to do testing. The only test an aftermarket windshield goes through is a ball drop test, which tests to make sure they meet standards for objects coming through the glass. They don't test for adhesion to the car, clarity, thickness, or even airbag deployment. But the car manufacturers do.
