Here at TLC Performance, we occasionally play the Guessing Game "Whose Box Is This?" How NOT to send a part to TLC Performance "Whose box is this?" is asked when a box arrives with no note or relevant return address (the local UPS store is not helpful). If the owner is known, we still wonder: What v...

Check out our year end Blog post. Happy Festivus to all!

2020 has been unprecedented for a multitude of reasons, but for TLC Performance it has been a year without 4-wheeling, racing or ProRally. Humor kept us sane, thus thankfully March 2020 will be remembered for the plethora of TP jokes amidst the rona lockdowns. In the interest of flattening the curve...

Did you ever wonder what a new 1962 FJ45 carburetor looks like?
Wonder no more. It looks like this. Note the painted throttle body, cadmium irridite body & air horn castings, and chromed window frame.

This page has been quiet. That's because the shop is very busy.
Just shipped out this 4.4L late model 2F to the east coast. It is dressed as an F to go in a '71 FJ40. It was not the recommended choice to use the original metal fan and no oil cooler, but the customer insisted.

FB is yelling that we need moar posts. Fine, here's a recent carb build. First 3 pics show we started with a NOS Aisan/Toyota 21100-61012, which is a Saudi spec 1983 FJ45 carb. Dismantled it, cleaned out 12 years of arabian shelf dust. Reassembled with some earlier US-spec parts to make a desmogged 75-80 2F carb. Note the addition of a choke arm that accepts an early choke cable, a taller insulator block so the carb fits under aircleaner, taller choke link rod & AP pushrod, longer secondary vac diaphragm, and the addition of a vacuum choke breaker for improved cold starts. The end result is a brand new Toyota carb that fits the customer's 76 FJ40 with no mods.

Here's a fun volunteer opportunity to spend a couple days driving around the 4-wheeling area of SE Ohio, pulling cars out of ditches. LMK if you're interested co-driving the TLC Performance shop wagon and I'll get you signed up.

Customers say the funniest things #642:
"Jim remanufactured my engine and it is MAGNIFICENT. I have owned and driven 5 FJ40's and had numerous parts rigs, and this is no doubt the finest running engine I have ever had the pleasure of driving." - Aaron from VA

Announcing a new item for sale exclusively from TLC Performance.
The 1975-1980 USA 2F engine has a very sturdy head and block, making it a good rebuild candidate, but there are no more OEM quality pistons available from Japan or domestic suppliers. The only piston choice of late has been china junk off eBay (yuck).
We have solved this problem by having Wiseco make custom forged pistons right here in Ohio to fit the 75-80 2F engine. They are only available 1.5mm overbore (why go any less) and with stock dome (why go any more). Compression is bumped from 7.8 to 8.1. Mill the head .020" & install SBC valves and CR goes to 8.5, which is about the max if we want to be able to run cheap gas
These pistons are machined from the same forging blanks as their popular 270GMC Land Speed Racing pistons. The forged material is stronger than OEM, and there is more of it, so if plans include any power adders like EFI or turbo or NOx, these can take it. They are complete with wristpins and a set of USA made Hastings chrome piston rings.
Price is $959USD, with free shipping anywhere in the USA. These are not always in stock, so there may be a 3-4 week lead time from order to delivery.

Facebook says a post is overdue.
Today is focused on servicing distributors. Inside the distributor is a piece called the 'governor pin'. The advance mechanism rests on this pin at idle, then advances until it hits the other side of the pin at 4000rpm. The pin is a metal core with plastic sleeve, but the plastic sleeve is usually shattered into pieces, which allows too much total advance and advance starts too early.
1st pic: location of the pin inside dissy.
2nd pic: an OEM plastic sleeve that is still largely intact.
3rd pic: pin with no plastic sleeve (this is what they usually look like).
The fix is a crimped on metal sleeve (not pictured).
