Adriel decided he was going to take the day off today and enjoy the weather. We are starting to question his attendance and dependability at the shop. Seems to come and go in spurts. But he did request to take a picture so he can show off the new flags he purchased for his razor.

Many people have the misconception that connecting a scanner to a vehicle and reading the codes is an actual diagnosis. Unfortunately many shops feed this kind of information to their customers. We have several customers a week asking if we will connect a computer to their vehicle and do a “quick diagnosis.” When we ask if they want the codes read or an actual diagnosis performed, the usual response is “isnt it the same thing?” No, its not. The computer will provide us with trouble codes for components or systems that have failed or are not working properly. But the “diagnosis” really starts when we begin testing those components trying to figure out why they have failed. We have customers constantly calling the shop, explaining to us that they had the codes read on their vehicle and the parts replaced, only to have the same problem a day later. We understand customers dont want to throw their hard earned money away for nothing. Firing the parts cannon is unacceptable. The goal should always be to fix it right the first time. Test, dont guess. Nobody is perfect, we all make mistakes from time to time and sometimes even make the wrong call. However, we should always be looking out for our customers and try to offer them reliable quality service. Vehicles have become so complex and sometimes testing and inspection can be time consuming. But in the end, it is always better and cheaper than just throwing parts at your car.

Adriel has been busy at the shop. He has approached us and has let us know that he feels he is ready to be let loose on customer vehicles. After a little back and forth and some negotiating, we have decided to leave him on Broom Duty for the time being. Some of his most important duties are sweeping the shop and stocking the fridge with drinks. He is not too impressed to say the least.
