Not everything we find needs to be fixed today.

Sometimes we inspect a vehicle and find something that needs attention right now.

Sometimes we find something that should be watched.

And sometimes the answer is, “You’re fine. Let’s check it again next time.”

We’d rather explain what we see, tell you what matters, and help you make a good decision about your vehicle than turn every inspection into a list of repairs.

Because knowing what can wait is just as important as knowing what can’t.

Ever look at an alignment report and think, “Okay… but what does any of this actually mean?”

Camber. Caster. Toe. Thrust angle.

These measurements tell us how your wheels are positioned in relation to each other and the road. When those angles are off, you may notice things like uneven tire wear, the vehicle pulling to one side, or a steering wheel that doesn’t sit straight.

And around Northeast Ohio, potholes and rough pavement give your suspension and alignment plenty to deal with.

The important part isn’t that you understand every number on this screen.

That’s our job.

Our job is to measure it, figure out what’s actually going on, and explain what we find in a way that makes sense.

If your car doesn’t seem to be tracking quite like it used to or you’re noticing unusual tire wear, it may be worth having the alignment checked.

And yes, the screen makes more sense to us than it probably does to you.

Another interesting one that showed up at Knapp’s.

There’s something about these big old Cadillacs. Long hood, chrome everywhere, hood ornament out front… they definitely weren’t trying to make cars small back then.

We get to see a little bit of everything come through the shop, and that's part of what keeps things interesting.

Who remembers riding around in one of these?

And look closely at the background. Apparently the Cadillac wasn't the only classic visiting us that day.

This Jeep came in with half a brake rotor. Literally.

By the time brakes get to this point, we’re way beyond a normal “my brakes are starting to squeak” situation. The rotor has been worn down dramatically, and you can see what that has done to the rest of the braking components.

The bigger takeaway isn’t “look how bad this is.” It’s that your car usually gives you warnings before things get this far.

Grinding, changes in how the brake pedal feels, pulling while braking, or anything that suddenly feels different deserves attention. Don’t wait until you’re wondering how the vehicle is still stopping.

If something doesn’t sound or feel right, let’s figure out what’s actually going on before replacing parts based on a guess. That’s how we approach repairs at Knapp’s.

We had a unique one in the shop recently.

Most days, we’re working on the cars, trucks and SUVs people drive every day.

Then every once in a while, something like this shows up and everyone has to stop for a minute and take a look.

This beautiful 1930s Dodge definitely qualified.

One of the things we enjoy about this business is never knowing exactly what might roll through the door next.

Possibly one of the least exciting parts on your entire car.

Until you see one like this.

This is an actual engine air filter that had been left in service for a very long time.

Its job is simple: help keep dirt and debris out of the air entering the engine.

The point isn't that there's one magic mileage when everybody should replace theirs. There isn't. The right maintenance schedule depends on the vehicle and how it's driven.

The better question is:
When was the last time somebody actually looked at yours?

Sometimes maintenance doesn't need to be complicated.

It just needs to not be forgotten.

Sometimes the cars that come through the shop are just too cool not to share.

This Buick Park Avenue is one of them.

We spend a lot of time showing you broken parts, strange noises and repairs, but part of the fun of working on cars is seeing the variety of vehicles people bring us.

Those grooves are not a performance upgrade.

This isn't one of our customers' cars, but it's a great example of why we pay attention when someone says:

“My brakes just don't feel right.”

On this particular car, the owner was feeling pulsation when braking. When the brakes were taken apart, there was a lot more going on than simply “it needs pads.”

That's the part of brake repair people don't always see.

A noise, vibration or strange pedal feel is the symptom.

The job is figuring out why it's happening before we start replacing parts.

Your car is pretty good at telling you when something has changed.

You just have to listen.

Buying a used car? The inspection you get before you buy it may be more important than the test drive.

This 2017 vehicle came in for a pre-purchase inspection. On the surface, it may look like a solid used car. But once we started looking closely, we found multiple things a buyer would want to know about **before** handing over the money.

That’s the point of a pre-purchase inspection.

It’s not about trying to talk you out of buying the car. It’s about giving you a better picture of what you’re actually buying — so you can make the decision with your eyes open.

A used car can look great, drive fine for 15 minutes, and still have issues you won’t catch in a parking lot.

If you’re considering a used vehicle, have someone inspect it who isn’t involved in selling it. A little information before the purchase can change the entire conversation.

That’s exactly what a good inspection should do.

Why does Subaru call it a BOXER engine?

It has nothing to do with boxing gloves.

The cylinders sit horizontally on opposite sides of the engine, and the pistons move back and forth in opposition to each other, a little like two boxers throwing punches.

That flat engine layout is one of the things that makes a Subaru different from a lot of the vehicles we work on.
