I thought it was time to reintroduce myself! 👋

I’m Kim Whitehead, co-owner of San Diego Heavy Truck & Equipment Repair, Inc. and SDHTER Hauling here in East County San Diego.

I’m a proud U.S. Army Veteran, wife, mom, business owner, and the person behind the scenes keeping a whole lot of moving pieces moving. 😊

Our story didn’t start with a fancy business plan or a big shop. It started with my husband George, a toolbox, years of hard work, and a reputation for knowing how to fix the things other people couldn’t. Over the years, that grew into the business we have today—a full-service heavy-duty diesel repair and equipment shop, along with our equipment and truck hauling division.

While George and our technicians handle what happens in the shop, I’m usually behind the scenes handling everything from customers and compliance to accounting, employees, marketing, and whatever fire needs putting out that day. If you own a business, you know exactly what I mean! 😂

One thing I’m especially proud of is that we’ve stayed local, independent and veteran-owned. We’ve built our business on relationships, straight answers, hard work, and taking care of our customers.

When I’m not working, I love spending time with my husband and family, being involved in our veteran and local business communities, and—when we can sneak away—getting out on our boat and enjoying the water. ⚓️

So, that’s a little bit about the person behind SDHTER.

It’s not every day you have a picture taken of yourself and look at it and think, “Damn, that’s a great picture!” 😂❤️

But I have to give some of the credit to the beautiful woman standing beside me — Susan Early from VECA.

Susan brings spirit, inspiration, and purpose to everything she takes on. Her dedication to our active-duty military and veteran community is something truly special, and I’m proud to stand beside her in this photo.

Susan, thank you for your continued service, your heart, and everything you do for our military and veteran community. 🇺🇸❤️

Good morning, everyone! My name is Kim Whitehead, and along with my husband, George Whitehead Jr., I own San Diego Heavy Truck & Equipment Repair, Inc.
We are a veteran-owned, DVBE-certified company specializing in diesel truck, motorhome, and heavy equipment repair and maintenance, as well as hauling services throughout Southern California. We are also a certified CARB testing facility, helping fleet owners and operators stay compliant with California emissions regulations.
George started in the industry in 1987, working on commercial fishing boats before moving on to several dealerships throughout San Diego. In 1999, we launched George’s Mobile Service, and in 2018 we incorporated as San Diego Heavy Truck & Equipment Repair, Inc.
Today, our team handles everything from diagnostics and preventative maintenance to major engine repairs and overhauls on diesel trucks, heavy equipment, and diesel motorhomes. Whether it’s routine service, troubleshooting a complex issue, CARB compliance testing, or a complete engine rebuild, we’re here to help. We take pride in treating our employees and customers like family and believe that building relationships is just as important as fixing equipment.
