Audi hand-built this in the same small factory as the R8. Same line, same building, a lot of the same people. Then the R8 died and this took the room.
Here's the uncomfortable part for V10 fans. The 2026 RS e-tron GT performance beats it almost everywhere.
912 hp peak. The R8 made 602.
0 to 60 in 2.4 seconds. The R8 needed about 3.2.
And this one has back seats and a trunk.
Three things about it that the spec sheet won't tell you:
It leans into corners
The active suspension can push a wheel down or pull it up on command. So instead of rolling away from a turn the way every other car does, it tips into it, like a motorcycle. Same trick keeps the nose from diving under braking. All of that happens inside about 0.8 inches of travel, and you feel it as the car simply staying flat.
The brake pads are just along for the ride
Regen pulls up to 400 kW and 0.45g of deceleration, which covers nearly all normal braking. The friction brakes sit there as the backup. A lot of owners will sell this car on its original pads.
The 912 hp is a 10-second window, not a number
You need launch control plus the boost function, and above 20 mph it hands you roughly 94 extra hp for about 10 seconds. The rest of the day it runs near 830 hp. Which is still 228 more than the R8 ever made.
The rest of it: 105 kWh pack, 320 kW charging, 10 to 80 percent in about 18 minutes, 5,159 lbs, 0.24 drag coefficient, 155 mph limiter.
Honest take: this is the best car Audi has ever engineered and I still miss the noise.
R8 or this? Don't overthink it!
