Every time an HDM truck is parked on the shoulder with its lights flashing, one of our team members is standing just a few feet from traffic.

School Bus Safety Starts Long Before the First Bell Rings

At HDM Towing & Truck Center, school bus safety is more than just another service. It's a responsibility we take seriously. For more than 20 years, we've had the privilege of helping maintain the Lake Mills Public Schools bus fleet, working behind the scenes to ensure the buses that transport our community's children are safe, reliable, and ready for every school day.

As the new school year begins earlier than usual, it's a great time for all of us to refresh our school bus safety awareness.

🚸 Remember these important safety tips:
🛑 Stop whenever a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended.
👀 Watch for children crossing the street. They can be unpredictable, especially during the excitement of the first weeks of school.
🚍 Give school buses plenty of space. They make frequent stops and need extra room to maneuver safely.
📵 Put distractions away. A text or quick glance at your phone can have life-changing consequences.

Harvest Season Is Almost Here.... because we are already getting farm trucks & trailers scheduled into our shop before harvest starts.

Across Wisconsin, you'll soon see more tractors, combines, grain trucks, and farm equipment sharing our roads. Harvest is one of the busiest times of the year for our agricultural communities, and a little extra patience can go a long way.

Here are a few reminders to help everyone get home safely:

🌽 Slow down when approaching farm equipment. They travel much slower than highway traffic.
🚜 Only pass when it's legal, safe, and you have a clear view ahead.
🚦 Give equipment plenty of space. Large machinery often needs extra room to turn into fields or driveways.
🚛 Truck drivers: Stay alert on rural routes where equipment may be entering or crossing the roadway.
🤝 Remember, everyone has a destination. A few extra minutes of patience can prevent a lifetime of regret.

The cooler weather... thank goodness for that!

Can I dare say it? For the first time in a while, it feels like we're gaining some ground.

The lower temperatures have meant fewer breakdowns on the road and a few less repair orders rolling into the truck shop. While you never want to wish work away, there's something pretty rewarding about finally seeing a little light at the end of the tunnel.

A huge shoutout to this HDM crew. Day after day, they've been out there knocking things out, one call and one job at a time. Their dedication, teamwork, and commitment never go unnoticed.

I'm going to savor this deep breath because we all know Wisconsin weather has a way of changing its mind, swiftly and constantly. Before long, we'll be right back out there doing what we do best.

Until then, I'm just beyond grateful to be doing it all with the best crew around. 💙
