🚤⚠️ AS A REMINDER… Things NOT TO DO While Boating! ⚠️🚤 We’ve seen them all!!

We’re all excited to be back on the water! 💙 But with a busy lake comes a little extra responsibility. Here are a few friendly reminders to help keep everyone safe on Lake Lure!

Some things may seem harmless in the moment…until they aren’t.

🚫 DON’T leave the helm unattended! 👩‍✈️

That selfie with your kid on the bow can wait until the boat is stopped. When the boat is underway, someone needs to be at the helm and paying attention at all times. ⚓️

🚫 DON’T overload the bow!

Avoid putting everyone at the front of the boat. Too much weight in the bow can make the boat unstable and increase the risk of taking on water or capsizing. Spread passengers and weight evenly throughout the boat.

🚫 DON’T tow without a proper lookout!

If you’re pulling a tube, skier or wake surfer, use a spotter and/or properly adjusted rearview mirror as required. The operator needs to maintain awareness of both the person being towed and the water ahead.

🦶 DON’T sit on the bow with your legs dangling over the edge while the boat is underway.

One unexpected wake or sudden stop can turn that into a very dangerous situation.

☀️ DON’T ride on the sunpad while the boat is in motion.

Save the sunpad lounging for when the boat is stopped!

🚫 Don’t use your docking lights while underway!

Docking lights are meant for docking and close-quarters maneuvering, not cruising across the lake. Using them while underway can create glare and temporarily blind or distract other boaters.

💡 Save the docking lights for the dock — and use your proper navigation lights after dark.

🛶 DON’T kayak or paddleboard in heavy boat traffic unnecessarily!

Stay within required No Wake areas. If you need to cross an area with active boat traffic, make it a direct crossing, stay visible and keep a close eye on approaching boats.

🚫 DON’T stop to swim in high-traffic areas!

The entrance to Town Marina—or anywhere boats are constantly entering, exiting or traveling—is not the place to unload everyone for a swim. Choose a protected area away from regular boat traffic.

🛟 All passengers under 13 must wear an approved USCG Approved life jacket!

💙 A little common sense and courtesy go a long way on the water.

Slow down. Stay alert. Watch your wake. 🌊 Give others room. And remember—we all share the lake! 💙⚓️💙

Boat smart. Boat safe. Boat Sober. Have fun. ⚓️💙

‼️ Help Us Clear the Shelter! ‼️

August is Clear the Shelters Month! Every year, animal shelters across the country come together for this nationwide adoption campaign to help homeless pets find the loving families they deserve. 🐶

Now through August 31, we're offering special adoption rates to help more of our amazing dogs and cats find their forever homes. Our facility is full of wonderful pets of all ages, sizes, and personalities who are patiently waiting for someone to choose them!

All dogs are core vaccinated, dewormed, on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested. All cats are core vaccinated, dewormed, on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and FIV/FeLV tested. 💉 🐾

When you adopt, you're doing so much more than bringing home a new best friend. You're giving a deserving animal a second chance at life, opening your heart to unconditional love, and making room for another pet in need.

This August, you can truly make a difference. Help us Clear the Shelter by adopting, sharing this post, and encouraging your family and friends to visit. Together, we can give more homeless pets the happy endings they deserve. ❤️🐾

🐻 PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE: Bear Encounters in the Town of Lake Lure

The Lake Lure Police Department reminds residents and visitors that black bears are common throughout our area. While bear sightings can be an exciting part of your mountain experience, it is important to remember that these are wild animals and should always be treated with caution and respect.

The Lake Lure Police Department works closely with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission when wildlife-related incidents occur. Your cooperation helps protect both our community and the bears that call these mountains home.

We appreciate your help in keeping Lake Lure safe. By respecting wildlife and following these simple safety practices, everyone can enjoy a safe and memorable visit to our beautiful town.

Momentum continues in Lake Lure! July was a milestone month as we celebrated the reopening of the Washburn Marina, welcomed boaters back to Day Slips, and reopened the Floating Boardwalk—another exciting step forward in our community's recovery and revitalization.
