Hi friends! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and, most importantly, heartfelt thanks to those and their families who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. 🇺🇸
Calls and emails are picking up on the reservation side, and I wanted to address a few things.
First, I do my very best to keep our rental prices reasonable. I’m also a very transparent person, and I think it’s helpful for people to understand what goes into running a small RV rental business. The insurance alone is significant, and then there’s storage, maintenance, dumping, stocking supplies, fuel, truck expenses, cleaning, and repairs. It adds up quickly, especially when services need to be hired out.
One alternative, of course, is buying your own rig. And for some families, that makes perfect sense. But owning a travel trailer comes with plenty of expenses too.
Typical costs of owning a travel trailer:
💰 Monthly payment:
$300 to $700+
(depending on trailer price, down payment, and financing)
🛡️ Insurance:
$300 to $1,000+ per year
🏠 Storage (if you don’t have space at home):
$50 to $200+ per month
🚛 Tow vehicle expenses:
A larger truck or SUV may be needed, often adding $500 to $1,000+ per month in vehicle payments, plus higher fuel costs
⛽ Fuel:
Towing can cut gas mileage in half. Weekend trips can easily add $100 to $300+ in fuel.
🔧 Maintenance & repairs:
Winterizing, dewinterizing, roof inspections, tire replacement, batteries, appliance repairs, and those unexpected fixes… often $500 to $2,000+ per year
🧽 Cleaning & stocking supplies:
Toilet paper, chemicals, linens, cookware, propane, paper goods, cleaning products, and replacement items
📉 Depreciation:
Most RVs lose value over time, even while you’re still making payments.
Owning can absolutely be worth it if you use it often.
But if you camp just a few times a year, renting can save thousands while giving you all the fun and none of the headaches.
✨ No loan
✨ No maintenance

No judgment here… buy one, rent one, or tent it. Whatever gets you outside and making memories is the right choice. 🏕️
