Estimates- we HATE doing over the phone estimates.
I know there is a lot of price shopping, vehicles are not cheap to fix, regular maintenance helps find the problems before they become a major concern and leave you stranded.
If you are a current customer we probably told you what you needed & that you had time & maybe it's been a while & you want an updated cost...that is understandable.
If you are NOT a customer, or it's been years since we have seen you
1. we do not know the condition of the vehicle
2.if it needs more than the part requested,
3. If that is even the part causing the issue. Codes tell you what part of the vehicle is having issues...ie oxygen sensor codes & there is an exhaust leak, fix the exhaust leak & the oxygen sensor codes go away.
4. Do we have all the needed info about the vehicle?
We are completely guessing & labor maybe off, parts price may be off, are there other drivability issues that need to be addressed before the requested problem should even get fixed? So yes that estimate is probably higher than the repair should be. It is easier to call a customer & say the bill is under the estimate than to have the vehicle apart & call the customer & say it's twice the estimate quoted because we had no idea what were getting into.
So yes, our over the phone estimates are going to seem high, most likely they are, it's not because we don't want your business it's because we want to stay in business. We can't survive by giving away parts & labor. Remember it is an estimate, estimates are not what the invoice always ends up being. You can't see everything without taking it completely apart, there are almost always surprises.
