Well let’s title this post “A compilation of automotive lift failures”. Is it time for your annual lift inspections?
If so, you might want to get them scheduled and hold a training session & safety meeting regarding proper lift usage. While some of the catastrophes pictured here were due to improper maintenance of the equipment some were due to improper loading of the vehicles.

Drove by a shop today and something caught my eye (first two pictures). Then drove back by the same shop an hour later (third picture). An vehicle lift is meant to pick up the “vehicle”, not one side, one end or just one corner, the WHOLE vehicle! If you want to change just one tire or even two, use a floor jack. It doesn’t matter that you are only lifting it a few inches, it puts stress on parts that are not designed to be used that way.
There is just no fixing “stupid”.
