1931 was the end of the road for the Model A. Ford wound production down into early 1932 before the flathead V8 Model 18 took its place, which left a lot of cheap A bodies sitting around for the first generation of rodders. The engine that eventually found its way into so many of them arrived for 1957, when Chevy bored the 265 out to 3.875 inches and left the stroke alone to get 283 cubes.

That is the recipe here, a hop up car built the old way. The 283 breathes through a Rochester two-barrel and dual exhaust, backed by a three-speed manual with overdrive. Black over black vinyl, lowered, bias-ply tires, removable hard top.

1996 was a turning point for GM's half-ton trucks. That year the Vortec engines arrived with new heads, roller cams and OBD-II diagnostics, and the 5.7 L31 that came with them turned out to be the last of the Gen I small-blocks. The GMT400 body had been around since 1988, but under the hood it was a fresh start.

This Sierra 1500 takes that idea further. A built 6.0L V8 with EFI sits up front, backed by a floor-shift four-speed automatic, with performance brakes front and rear and a lowered stance to match. It shows 4,175 miles since the build, finished in white over tan with LED lighting and a short bed.

For 1968, the GTO got its body-color Endura nose, and Motor Trend handed the car its Car of the Year trophy plus a separate award for the bumper alone. Buyers who wanted chrome instead could order a LeMans bumper and pocket a $26.33 credit. Only 2,108 out of 87,684 GTOs went that route.

This one wears Nightshade Green, paint code V on the 1968 Pontiac chart. It has had one owner since new, still rides on its original 1968 title, and has never left Florida. Numbers matching 400 V8, factory air, and a full restoration behind it.

Chevrolet put cast aluminum knock-off wheels on the 1963 Sting Ray option sheet as RPO P48. The castings came out porous and let air past tubeless tires, and no record exists of a production '63 leaving the factory wearing them. Wheels have been the first thing owners change on these cars ever since.

This one settles the question with Foose rims and side exhaust under black paint. A 383 stroker V8 and a 4 speed manual give it more shove than any '63 left Missouri with, and Dakota Digital gauges track it all from the black and silver cabin. The top still folds by hand, exactly as it should.

For 1968, Chevrolet quietly re-engineered the Camaro's back half. Staggered rear shocks, one ahead of the axle and one behind, went in to tame the wheel hop that plagued the first-year cars. The door glass changed too, with the vent windows deleted and fresh air routed through the dash instead.

This Torch Red SS 350 tribute convertible carries that thinking forward. A 700R4 automatic with overdrive keeps the 350 V8 relaxed at highway speed, and Wilwood front discs sit behind a four wheel disc setup. Add air conditioning and a power top, and the drop top part gets easy.

The M491 Turbo Look package gave the naturally aspirated Carrera the 930's stance, and for 1986 Porsche changed how it was built. Earlier cars had flares welded to a narrow fender, but from model year 1986 the wide front fender became a single stamped steel piece. 1986 was also the last year of the 915 gearbox before the G50 arrived.

So this Cabriolet sits at the end of one era and the start of another. It's a 3.2 liter flat six with that final 915 five speed, and the showroom counts it among just 56 widebodies. Guards Red over black, still wearing its original paint.

Ford used the Mach 1 name a full decade before any Mustang wore it. It appeared in 1959 on the Levacar Mach I, a wheel-less levitating concept shown at the Ford Rotunda. The badge finally reached production in 1969, when the Mach 1 arrived as the new performance face of the redesigned Mustang, and the 428 Cobra Jet sat at the top of its engine list.

This one has that Cobra Jet under the hood, now running Edelbrock fuel injection and breathing through a Flowmaster dual exhaust. A 4 speed manual keeps you in charge of it. Acapulco Blue over a white interior is a sharp combination, and the air conditioning means you can actually enjoy the drive. It is ready to roll.

For 1964, Chevrolet pulled the fake grilles out of the Corvette hood but kept the recessed footprints where they sat, giving that single model year a hood all its own. Engineers spent the year quieting the car down with added insulation and revised body mounts. Ermine White carried over from 1963 as one of the year's paint choices.

This convertible wears that same Ermine White over a white vinyl interior, with a 327 V8 and a 3-speed automatic behind it. Foose rims fill the arches and four wheel power disc brakes handle the stopping. Add a tilt wheel, power steering and a manual top, and it reads show car until you drive it.

The "E" in E-Bird isn't a trim badge. It's the engine letter Ford stamped into the VIN for the 312 topped with two Holley four-barrels, rated at 270 horsepower. Of the 21,380 Thunderbirds built for 1957, only about 1,500 left Dearborn wearing that code, and 1957 closed the book on the two-seater.

This one pairs the dual-quad 312 with a 3-speed manual and overdrive, a 9-inch rear and dual exhaust. Colonial White over black vinyl, with a removable hard top and power steering. A rare engine code with the shifter to match.

Dodge restyled the Coronet from nose to tail for 1968, and the R/T arrived with a 440 Magnum and a 150 mph speedometer as standard equipment. Production of the R/T line climbed to 10,900 cars that year. Here is the part enthusiasts forget: TorqueFlite automatic was the standard transmission, so rowing your own cost extra.

This Bright Blue Metallic R/T takes the manual idea further with a TKO600 five speed, one gear past anything the factory offered. Up front sits a 451 V8 with Indy heads, TTI headers, a four barrel and MSD ignition, feeding a Sure Grip rear. Four wheel power disc brakes and power steering keep the whole thing civil in traffic.
