Project RL3

Project RL3 A sport inspired 2005 Honda Odyssey project. Come take a look around, give a like and share... and j

A 2006 Honda Odyssey idea that started after seeing a short video about the Honda Manufacturing of Alabama staff. They took a production line van and modified it for race track use and did very well. This page shall detail the build and efforts to modify the RL3 Odyssey, purchased on 5/31/13
Yeah it's a minivan and no i do not have kids but this thing is WAY fun to drive stock, and modified it is even more fun on the streets while still being a pleasure to daily drive

One of the fun things to learn while working on this van.
Not all bearings work for the job we want.. a follower came in wanting extended studs pressed into a new bearing.
Normally an easy-ish task for us here but for some reason we had difficulty on this one..

Then after some study, found out why...
OEM Honda hub bearing stud hole is about 15.8mm and the brand new SKF bearing is 15.00mm
The result? No replacement stud will fit unless its the smaller diameter that came with this bearing; and extended stud? Don't even try it, lol

Off to source a OEM Hub bearing to complete this task, yet for some reason the rear SKF bearings were of proper size.

Sorry for a bit of delay everyone; This page is still going and the work on this manual swap is still going forward albeit a slower pace.

I've been busy at work in the shop with customer vehicles and by the time I have spare moments to work on this, im pretty worn out.

The workshop has been steadily busy with a multitude of vehicles and this is a one man shop. Requested services have been oil changes or brake work, window regulator/motor swaps to fuel pumps and 50/100k maintainance upkeep. All the way to engine/transmission changes and complete vehicle refreshes. However I do realize I have been away for far too long so I will make effort to keep things informed and moving here.

Thanks for your patience!

Ended the year on a hugely productive note and it makes me so happy despite needing to pause work on the van..

The Subaru project that has been ongoing is slowly coming to an end; The engine was difficult to locate and then lots of refreshing was done only to find out the clutch system is too weak and engine has a slight misfire. Hunting those down as I can and replacing the clutch master/slave cylinders soon.

Next up was a 2003 GMC 3500 that came in for locked rear brakes; Comes to discover it needed wheel bearings in addition to rotor/pad/caliper replacement along with all brake hoses and a hardline. Then moving up to the engine bay revealed a bad hydrobooster and brake master cylinder. Get all those taken care of to the hum of the owner requesting a tuneup before being done and now this big boy is back in service...middle of all this work, in came a 96/97 Accord for a clutch master cylinder replacement as an emergency swap...

Then it was on to the 12-13 VW Jetta which got sideswiped by a truck somewhere in LA, cleaned up all the tire debris ruboff as I could along with replacing the mirror and off she went back to the roads of life... round that off with some maintaince on a 15 CRV for lower control arms and alignment and then finished by my Cibbeak! That also needed lower control arms and tires 🤬 LOL Loving it...

Xmas was fun this year too receiving my first chef knife as a gift! (More cooking to come!!) and then finally finding time to strip down and rebuild my trusty impact gun that ive had for close to 10 years now... She alone is getting rebuilt/refreshed and also some port work on the internals to increase pressure to grab a little more power 🥰

Loving it all and can't wait for the future of 23, thanks for the support everyone!! Much appreciated and happy new year!

Hope everyone had a great weekend and cheers to everyone out there for this upcoming week!
Subaru leaves soon as the engine is almost ready to go back in, and then a slight pause before GMC job starts, so ill have time to muddle around with the van some more.

A gratitude post for whomever originally sent the owner of this 06 Civic Si to the shop for suspension install.... Much thanks for the trust and I appreciate it. Jon was taken care of when he dropped off the car last night for repair after his serpentine belt tensioner exploded on him, tonight the car was finished up with work requested and work needed so that he can continue life and work, uninterrupted.
Headlights were also cleared up, fluids topped off, after suspension changed out and the idler pulleys along with tensioner bracket were replaced as well as a quick inspection, and tire pressure check.

After that it was off to cook up probably the best pasta I've made to date to finish off the night 😁 The roasted garlic really made the difference and I loved it.

And now nap time! 😀

A bit of rain has slowed shop work so time to shift to the van for the next day or two.

Should be fun stuff, need to start readying myself to weld this thing up haha...the mounts look good and solid too from last time.

Also shout out to Jason from Fatfour Customs for the opportunity to test fit a new product. More to come soon

Had a 07 EX tow in to the shop from Irvine area on recommendation from ODYClub.com
Symptoms were extreme power drain and then other issues that the client wished to get addressed.
We performed timing belt/water pump/tensioners change along with a set of fresh spark plugs to start off the reliability factor on a good step. Then we moved on to the battery issue and resolved that while also performing an oil and filter change and then finished up with swapping out the badly leaking power steering pump before washing the van and giving her a good bill of health for street duty.
After this a tire pressure check and looked into the AC system that was underperforming. She is now ready for pickup back to a happy client and we're loving it.

Perfect end for a weekend of fun!

However that doesn't mean I gave up at all!

While working to repair client vehicles, I've had these on the bench curing. If you've been around cars for any great length of time, you'd know this is pretty old school way of making "solid" mounts... So here we go haha urethane filled oem style mounts for the transmission. Shouldn't ever have these wear out now, only drawback might be a slight bit of vibration felt in van.

In retrospect, It probably would have been easier to see if our buddies at Innovative Mounts made these already haha

Did a little bit of work on odds and ends for the Transmission mount. Some new mounting hardware has also arrived from a vendor to help get this all situated and looking fresh ..and then this 2008 128i rolled in for work.

Gonna pause on van work while I get this one done up with new eccentric sensor, and valve cover gasket to clean up oil leaks and get running correctly
