Wallowa Lake. Pendleton. Baker City. Crater Lake. 🗺️

Eastern Oregon is one of the best kept road trip secrets in the country, and we might be biased, but we think La Grande is a pretty great home base for all of it.

But here's what we see every August: people come in after something went wrong on the road. A coolant issue on the climb into the Blues. A battery that started fine at home but gave out at a trailhead. Brake pads that were "probably fine" until a long downhill said otherwise.

Before your next adventure, here's what actually matters:
✅ Brakes — mountain grades are brutal on worn pads
✅ Cooling system — summer heat + elevation = your radiator working overtime
✅ Tires — tread, pressure, and don't forget the spare
✅ Battery — if it's over 3 years old, test it before you go

And it's saying: "Please don't wait on this one."

Here's what brake sounds actually mean:
🔸 Squealing — wear indicators doing their job. Pads are getting low.
🔸 Grinding — metal on metal. The pad is gone. This is now a rotor problem too.
🔸 Vibrating pedal — warped rotors. Usually from heat buildup on long downhill grades.

If you're driving through the Blue Mountains or dropping down into La Grande on I-84, your brakes work harder than almost anywhere else. Long grades, elevation changes, heavy braking, it adds up fast.

A brake inspection takes less than an hour. Catching it early is almost always cheaper than waiting.

Road trip season is HERE, and there's nothing worse than being 2 hours from La Grande with a car that's trying to tell you something. 🚗💨

Before you load up the cooler and hit the highway, here's what we always recommend checking:
🛞 Tires — pressure, tread depth, and don't forget the spare. Nobody thinks about the spare until they really need it.
🌡️ Coolant & AC — long drives on warm days put your cooling system to work. Make sure it's ready.
🔋 Battery — if it's over 3 years old and hasn't been tested lately, now's the time. A weak battery that starts fine in your driveway can fail on a mountain pass.
🛢️ Oil — check your level and when your last change was. A long trip on old oil isn't doing your engine any favors.

We can run through all of this in one quick visit, usually same day. Think of it as a pre-trip peace of mind check.
