How important is using the correct coolant for your vehicle? We could tell you, but we'd rather just show you. Here we have a subaru engine that at the time was less than a year out from having head gaskets and timing belt replaced at another shop (admittedly we'vehad the vehicle for a little while). Customer states: it shut off while driving. Diagnostics showed while cranking the engine, the timing belt and camshafts were not turning. Engine was removed because interference engine. Further Diagnostics revealed the right side camshaft had locked up. Upon removing the cylinder heads, it was found that the coolant passages for that cylinder head were blocked. The cause? The use of universal/green coolant. Subaru uses blue coolant. The green coolant caused the left over blue coolant to crystallize and block off the coolant passages leading the head to overheat and basically melt the camshaft journals. Hopefully this help you understand the importance of using the correct coolant. Unfortunately this customer was told there was no warranty on the previous repairs. We offer a 2 year 24,000 mile warranty on every repair that comes through this shop because we stand behind our work 100%
